Hipatia

Hipatia is the White Knight of the Four Horsemen, a fleshless senior undead whose devotion to Jerem leads her to mistake Theodore Miller for her resurrected king.

Biography

Eastern Legacies, Quattro, and the Soldun Civil War

Hipatia detects Theodore's use of Death's Worship after his battle with Zest and interprets it as evidence that Jerem has returned. Her joy overrides caution: after centuries spent seeking their founder's relics, she withdraws to tell the other Horsemen rather than test the conclusion. This first appearance establishes the error that drives her later service; Theodore has the grimoire but is not Jerem's host at this point. (Chapter 240)

East Continent and the Northern War

Hipatia approaches Theodore directly, kneels, and identifies him as her king. She interprets his strength, Gladio, and earlier possession of Charlotte's Necklace through the same false premise, even mistaking the automaton for an advanced death knight. Theodore briefly preserves the misunderstanding to learn the Horsemen's objective. When Hipatia declares that they intend to end civilization and humanity, he recognizes that coexistence is impossible, though he does not expose the deception immediately. (Chapters 281–283)

The Horsemen exploit the northern battlefield's dead while continuing to investigate their presumed king. Jerem's genuine return through Theodore's body later resolves the mistaken identity, and Hipatia resumes her intended place as a servant empowered by him. Her loyalty belongs to Jerem, not to Theodore's person; the same body presents two different agents across these events. (Chapters 285 and 295–296)

Jerem's Return and the Great Forest

Hipatia advances with Jerem's undead army and survives attacks that destroy lesser undead, using her scream to disrupt physical effects. When Jerem separates Theodore from the main battlefield, she joins two other Horsemen in restraining him. Her spirit attack creates a brief opening, but Theodore's Soul Calibre strikes her directly. Because Hipatia is a fleshless terror wight rather than a vampire or lich anchored elsewhere, the blow destroys her instead of merely ruining a host body. The fragment of power Jerem invested in her returns to him; that returned energy is not Hipatia surviving as an independent remnant. (Chapters 323 and 325–326)

Marriage, Armageddon, and the New World

During the battle with Wrath, Theodore sees more than a thousand evil spirits whose level is compared to Hipatia's. They are newly released countermeasures from Wrath's database, not Hipatia herself, and the comparison does not undo her destruction. No summoned, possessed, or reconstructed Hipatia appears after Chapter 326. (Chapter 391)

Appearance and personality

Hipatia appears as a beautiful woman with snow-white hair, white clothing, pale eyes, and white skin, her tears and lily-like features contrasting with her nature as an undead spirit. She speaks softly and kneels with sincere affection, but her pure devotion is inseparable from a goal of human extinction. Her apparent body is the form of a terror wight, not a living host whose separate identity is established. (Chapters 240 and 281–282)

Magic, abilities, and martial skills

Hipatia is a high-ranking ghost-type undead identified as a terror wight and as a necromancer of at least the seventh circle. She controls death knights, resists ordinary physical destruction because she is not flesh-based, and releases screams that attack the spirit or interfere with physical laws strongly enough to interrupt attacks and extinguish supernatural fire. The corpus does not provide a complete spell list or explain how her visible form is maintained. (Chapters 281–282, 323, and 325)

Her lack of a flesh anchor is both protection and decisive weakness. Bodily attacks are poorly suited to killing her, but a direct astral weapon can strike the existence that matters. Soul Calibre therefore extinguishes her in one blow, after which Jerem recovers only the power he had granted her. Wrath's later spirits are merely measured against her level. (Chapters 325–326 and 391)

Relationships

  • Jerem: Hipatia worships Jerem as founder and king, waits centuries for his return, and accepts power from him as one of the Four Horsemen. Her destruction returns that invested portion to him but does not preserve her consciousness. (Chapters 240, 281–296, and 325–326)
  • Theodore Miller: Hipatia mistakes Theodore for an amnesiac Jerem and offers absolute service. Once the real Jerem takes Theodore's body, that error ends; after Theodore regains agency, he destroys her with Soul Calibre. (Chapters 281–296 and 325–326)
  • Wrath: Wrath later generates massed evil spirits described as being on Hipatia's level. They share a power comparison, not identity or continuity. (Chapter 391)

Items

  • Charlotte's Necklace: Hipatia and the Horsemen seek this relic because of its connection to Jerem. Theodore's earlier possession contributes to her mistaken certainty that he is their king. (Chapters 240 and 281–282)
  • Communication skull: Hipatia gives Theodore a small crafted skull for remote contact. Its later custody and destruction are not established, and it has no separate generated item page. (Chapter 282)
