Lydia is a high-ranking Zaliban and Akeem's grieving fiancée, deceived by Gustav's use of the dead man's appearance.

Biography

Grief exploited as access

Lydia has withdrawn from duty after Akeem's disappearance and presumed death, losing her former high-ranking position while refusing to move on. Gustav Oslov, who killed Akeem months earlier, returns in his shape with convincing injuries. Lydia embraces the apparent survivor and helps him re-enter Zaliban circles, believing that her fiancé has finally come home. (Chapters 628–630)

The false reunion collapses

Gustav repeatedly sedates Lydia, imitates a man whose personality he barely knows, and uses her family access to arrange a leadership meeting. His unusually commanding conduct troubles her because the real Akeem was more deferential. When paralysis and violence expose the operation, Lydia recognizes the imposture and watches Gustav discard the face that had sustained her hope, leaving her alive but devastated. (Chapters 633–639)

Lydia is described as beautiful and is immediately emotionally expressive when she believes Akeem has returned.
