Charles

Charles is an Echelon Academy student who antagonizes Gustav and abuses his weaker associate Gordon. His repulsive-force bloodline becomes another target of Gustav's early power acquisition.

Biography

Sparring with Gustav

Charles accepts a spar with Gustav Oslov, expecting to humiliate a student whose recent improvement irritates their peers. His surrounding force prevents direct contact and his electricity adds offensive pressure, but Gustav's speed lets him evade and analyze the defense. The match reveals the bloodline's value while also showing Charles that Gustav is no longer the easy target the school remembers. (Chapters 71–72)

Gordon's retaliation

Charles later takes Gordon to an adult club they frequent, treating him with casual contempt while expecting another night of indulgence. Gordon suddenly attacks him in the bathroom, driven by the history of Charles's abuse and empowered enough to break through the invisible repulsive barrier. Charles is beaten before he can regain control, turning the subordinate he mocked into the source of his most personal humiliation. (Chapters 75–82)

Appearance and personality

Charles is a tall student with orange hair and a manic laugh. Wealth gives him a private vehicle, guards, and habitual access to expensive entertainment. He is arrogant, sexually exploitative, and contemptuous toward Gordon and weaker classmates; his concern for Gordon's apparent illness is shallow and quickly returns to self-indulgence. (Chapters 71 and 75–77)

Bloodlines and abilities

Charles surrounds himself with an invisible force that repels contact several inches from his body and coats attacks in red, snake-like electricity. The barrier can stop an ordinary strike even when he is surprised, but sufficient force can penetrate it, as Gordon demonstrates. Speed remains another counter because Charles's eyes can track Gustav while his body cannot respond quickly enough. (Chapters 71–72 and 77)
