Dicatheous

History

Gideon develops Dicatheous from the steam-engine concept Arthur shares with him, producing a large engineered vessel that represents new Dicathian transport and military technology. The ship is named and scheduled for launch, launches in the following chapter, and is later reported out of contact. When an apparently similar ship is found wrecked, Gideon distinguishes it from his original design, establishing that Alacrya copied or acquired the underlying technology rather than that the wreck is Dicatheous itself. The original vessel is recalled under construction but is not directly present in a current scene. (Chapters 44–45, 79, 129–131, and 138–139)

Properties and use

Dicatheous combines artificing, enchantment, and mechanical propulsion on a scale unusual for Dicathen. Its importance lies as much in reproducible engineering as in the individual hull: the design demonstrates how a conceptual machine can be translated into local mana technology and then imitated by an enemy. The corpus does not securely establish the original vessel's ultimate fate. (Chapters 129–131, 138–139, and 165)
