Sulla

Sulla is the senior Ascenders Association official who turns professional trust in Grey into material support for Seris's rebellion.

Biography

Recorded appearances

Sulla meets Arthur Leywin, then Professor Grey, as the high mage of Cargidan's Ascenders Hall and quickly recognizes that the newcomer is exceptional. When forged Victoriad documents threaten Grey, Sulla conducts the inquiry, warns him that someone is arranging a lethal accusation, and refuses to charge him once the evidence supports his innocence. As an old associate of Seris Vritra, he later commits Ascenders Association fighters, weapons, artifacts, and communications to the rebellion. When Agrona's spellform curse forces submission, Sulla publicly refuses to recant; his own rune destroys his body, making his death the immediate proof of how the coercion works. (Chapters 346, 371, 424, 447, and 473)

Appearance and personality

Detailed stable physical traits are sparse. Sulla is jovial and probing on first acquaintance, professional under pressure, resistant to highblood intimidation, and ultimately brave enough to state his loyalty even while afraid. (Chapters 346, 371, 424, and 473)

Relationships

  • Arthur Leywin: Sulla knows Arthur as Grey, investigates an attempt to frame him, and later mobilizes ascender support around the reputation and cause Grey created. (Chapters 346, 371, 424, and 447)
  • Seris Vritra: Sulla is an old associate whose network ties Ascenders Association resources into Seris's rebellion. He refuses to abandon her cause when Agrona demands submission. (Chapters 424, 447, and 473)
  • Enola Frost: Enola joins Sulla and other intermediaries in a clandestine resistance meeting where different institutional networks coordinate support. (Chapter 424)

Mana, aether, and abilities

Sulla is a ranking Alacryan mage and administrator, but the supplied scenes do not establish his rune set, combat element, signature spell, or any aether ability. His most important capability is organizational: he can coordinate ascenders, resources, intelligence, and meeting channels. (Chapters 346, 371, 424, and 447)

Items

  • Communication artifact: A device in Sulla's office receives Corbett Denoir during the investigation into Grey. It is Association equipment, not a unique personal weapon. (Chapter 371)
  • Resistance supplies: Sulla commits weapons and artifacts gathered through the Ascenders Association, but no individual item is named as his possession. (Chapter 424)
