Sebastian

Sebastian is a royal guard who abuses his authority in an attempt to seize Sylvie from Arthur and later lives in disgrace after the royal family punishes him.

Biography

Recorded appearances

Sebastian encounters young Arthur near the royal family and covets Sylvie Leywin, treating a living bond as a valuable creature he can claim under color of royal authority. He attacks and wounds Arthur Leywin, only to be badly outmatched and punished once the Glayders learn the circumstances. Years later, Arthur, Mica, and Olfred encounter the former guard living under reduced circumstances in Ashber during their investigation. Sebastian recognizes Arthur and reacts through self-preservation, offering local context rather than demonstrating meaningful reform. The later scene shows consequences lasting beyond the original humiliation without inventing remorse the corpus does not establish. (Chapters 24–27 and 173–176)
