Riven is Rai Kothan's eldest surviving son and one of the young asuras who build personal ties with Clan Leywin.

Biography

Recorded appearances

Riven introduces himself to Arthur Leywin as the eldest surviving son of Rai Kothan and helps organize a traditional mixed-clan mountain hunt. His humor and enthusiasm draw the Leywins into the younger asuras' circle, while later conversation reveals that Agrona's rebellion and the deaths of older siblings make Vritra history personal for him. During the hunt, Riven protects his sister Romii from a sudden attack and returns as one of the expedition's proud survivors. He and other young clan heirs are later confined together during Epheotus's crisis, where his joking manner masks anger and concern for those fighting outside. Afterward, he attends Arthur's celebration and joins competitive games with Dicathian guests. (Chapters 508–509, 512, 515, 532, and 537)

Appearance and personality

Riven is a young basilisk with dark hair, red eyes, and horns that sweep back and then rise outward. He wears deep gray and green clan clothing. He is sociable, teasing, tradition-minded, protective of his sister, and capable of using humor to cover genuine worry. (Chapters 508–509, 515, and 532)

Relationships

• Rai Kothan: Rai is Riven's father and clan lord. Riven's position as eldest surviving son places family loss and future Kothan leadership behind his participation in inter-clan events. (Chapters 508–509 and 515)
