Professor Geist welcomes Disciplinary Committee members into his basic mana-manipulation class, but turns their visit into a series of demonstrations designed to flatter Kathyln Glayder and belittle Arthur Leywin. He uses stronger fire magic than his students expect, putting Kathyln at risk before Arthur accepts the challenge and overwhelms him. Kathyln reports the incident, witnesses confirm that Geist endangered students, and Director Goodsky dismisses him. His later attempt to grab and intimidate Kathyln reinforces that the firing follows a pattern of wounded status and poor judgment rather than one misunderstood classroom exercise.
