Kayden of Highblood Aphelion meets Grey as a fellow Central Academy professor after war injuries have ended his expected path as his blood's foremost son. He recognizes Grey's desire for privacy and gives him an enchanted cloak, later warning him that powerful families are watching. When Seris gathers Alacryan highbloods against Agrona, Kayden contributes his blood's resources despite being unable to fight as before, accepts Grey's identity as Arthur Leywin, and supports the political transition that follows the war. Appearance and personality

Kayden has mussed auburn hair, a youthful face that looks older than his age, one arm ending at the elbow, and an injured leg that leaves him limping. He uses wry humor and cultivated carelessness to cover watchfulness, trauma, and political intelligence. (Chapters 351, 369, and 447–448)

Relationships

Kayden becomes an informal friend and colleague to Arthur Leywin, first knowing him as Grey. His allegiance later shifts toward Seris Vritra's reform coalition, to which Highblood Aphelion can provide resources. (Chapters 351–369 and 447–448)

Before being wounded, Kayden was a distinguished war mage with a regalia on his third rune.
