Cylrit
Biography
Role in the story
Cylrit first appears beside Uto as one of Agrona's retainers, but the contrast between them immediately defines him: he restrains Uto's urge to torment prisoners and delivers Agrona's ultimatum with controlled professionalism. Acting later on Seris Vritra's hidden orders, he intercepts Arthur Leywin on the road to Elenoir and fights defensively to delay rather than kill him. His dark greatsword redirects Arthur's attacks, making Cylrit both an obstacle and early proof that Seris's faction has objectives distinct from Agrona's public war plan. (Chapters 142 and 221–223)
When Seris turns covert resistance into rebellion, Cylrit converts her strategy into action by managing reports, shields, and technical defenses around Sehz-Clar. He watches the physical price Seris pays to power Orlaeth's apparatus, helps Arthur and Regis free her from it, and remains loyal after that service stops offering status or safety. Following Agrona's first fall, he joins Seris's plans to rebuild Alacrya; in the final assault, he commands ground forces and seeks Seris even after being wounded. Perhata's shadow constructs kill him, and the loss drives Seris to destroy Perhata, binding their partnership's personal cost to the rebellion's last battle. (Chapters 401–479, 495, and 521–525)
Appearance and personality
Cylrit is a handsome, sharp-eyed Alacryan with horns and dark hair that is normally kept carefully groomed. He commonly wears black armor with a purple cloak, presenting a severe military silhouette. His mana is held so tightly that Arthur initially detects no obvious signature and instead compares his stillness to the eye of a violent storm. Imprisonment leaves his hair unkempt around his horns, a small but noticeable disruption of his usual composure. (Chapters 221, 414, and 495)
He is disciplined, observant, restrained, and intensely loyal. Cylrit rarely wastes movement or speech, and even his anger is most visible when Seris is disrespected or endangered. He is less theatrical and less openly cruel than many of Agrona's elite officers, but that restraint does not make his early service innocent. His later conduct gains moral weight because he continues to choose Seris's dangerous rebellion when obedience no longer provides the protection of the Vritra state. (Chapters 142, 221–223, 401–479, and 495–525)
Relationships
- Seris Vritra: Seris is Cylrit's Scythe, commander, confidante, and chosen cause. He executes her concealed orders, manages the machinery and personnel of her rebellion, worries openly over the physical price of her plans, and seeks her immediately during the final battle. Their formal Scythe-retainer hierarchy develops into a partnership sustained by trust after both titles lose their security. (Chapters 162, 221–223, 401–479, 495, and 521–525)
- Arthur Leywin: Cylrit begins as Arthur's gatekeeper, blocking him because Seris believes his survival matters more than his immediate objective. Their later alliance is practical rather than intimate. Arthur helps preserve the Sehz-Clar defenses and free Seris from the failing apparatus, while Cylrit accepts his independent command and eventually fights beside his coalition against Agrona. (Chapters 221–223, 446–479, and 521–525)
- Caera Denoir: Caera and Cylrit are two of Seris's closest subordinates, but their functions differ. Caera serves as an investigator, political bridge, and independent agent, while Cylrit more often handles direct command and defense. He includes her in the rebellion's intelligence flow and treats her as a trusted participant rather than a rival for Seris's attention. (Chapters 330, 401–414, 437–479, and 495)
- Uto: Uto is Cylrit's fellow retainer and his clearest early foil. Cylrit restrains and reprimands Uto when the latter wants to prolong suffering, revealing different temperaments within Agrona's command. The distinction is meaningful without absolving Cylrit of his own role in enforcing Alacryan power during the invasion. (Chapter 142)
Mana, aether, and abilities
Cylrit is a Vritra-blooded mana user at retainer level. He does not demonstrate a personal aether art. His fighting style combines a large conjured or mana-formed blade, void-wind techniques, flight, physical reinforcement, and unusually refined redirection. He is most effective as a defensive duelist and battlefield Shield, buying time and preserving other combatants rather than relying on uncontrolled destruction.
Greatsword and force redirection
Cylrit manifests a pitch-black greatsword and surrounds it with a pulling influence that drags hostile spells and weapon strikes off their intended paths. Against Arthur, he redirects elemental attacks into the blade, deflects close-range blows, and even responds to an attack shaped around Static Void. The technique is not invulnerability: Arthur's speed and pressure force Cylrit backward, and stronger opponents or coordinated formations can overwhelm what he redirects. (Chapters 221–223)
Void wind, flight, and command
His void-wind magic can form cutting blades, shields, and forceful currents suitable for protecting a position or disrupting an attacker. He flies, reinforces his body, and fights with the speed and endurance expected of an Alacryan retainer. In large battles, however, his value extends beyond individual power. Cylrit reads defensive systems, directs troops, relays Seris's strategy, and shifts between personal protection and wider command as circumstances change. (Chapters 401–414, 437–479, and 521–525)
Items
- Black greatsword: Cylrit's signature weapon is a broad, pitch-black blade associated with the pulling field that redirects attacks toward it. The text presents it as part of his combat magic rather than a separately named relic, and its effectiveness depends on his timing and mana control. (Chapters 221–223)
- Black armor and purple cloak: His dark armor and purple cloak mark his early station as an Alacryan retainer and reinforce his controlled military appearance. They offer ordinary battlefield protection but are not established as unique artifacts with independent powers. (Chapter 221)
