Biography

Role in the story

Claire is a senior Battle Mage and the leader of Xyrus Academy's Disciplinary Committee, charged with protecting students across factional and racial divisions. She recruits Arthur Leywin, directs investigations into the radical student faction, and tries to hold the committee together after Kai's betrayal exposes them to the academy assault. The attack destroys her mana core and ends the magical career around which she had built her identity. When she meets old friends again, she acknowledges the loss without surrendering her usefulness, choosing to teach at her family's sword institution and serve the war through knowledge she still possesses. (Chapters 51–68, 78–96, 152, and 166–169)

Years later, Claire returns to active service through the Beast Corps, piloting an exoform rather than recovering her lost magic. She leads other pilots, understands that their unfamiliar machines can counter Alacryan shield tactics, and joins the assault on Taegrin Caelum as proof that people without mana can still hold a battlefield role. Drawn into Agrona's Relictombs trap with Arthur, Varay, Bairon, Tessia, and Sylvie, Claire repeatedly guards the group from aetheric manifestations while the mages work out an escape. Bairon sacrifices himself to stabilize their exit; Claire honors his decision, helps bring his body back, and withdraws with Varay before the final confrontation, surviving as a soldier whose second path never pretends the first loss was undone. Appearance and personality

At Xyrus, Claire has bright scarlet hair cut to her chin and wears an ornate military-style academy uniform. Her golden rapier and energetic bearing suit a talented senior student accustomed to leadership. After the attack, she appears in an ivory dress and shawl; a large scar crosses her lower back near the spine, and her formerly lively aura has become quieter. Inside the later exoform, her human figure is protected within a much larger griffon-like machine. (Chapters 51 and 166)

Claire is positive, responsible, tactically minded, and demanding of herself. The committee's failure makes her blame her own trust and decisions before anyone else can, but recovery teaches her to separate leadership from magical rank. She can accept Kathyln's recognition that losing a core did not erase her strength, and her later instinct to applaud soldiers leaving an ungrateful city shows a commander attentive to morale and dignity as well as battlefield efficiency. • Arthur Leywin: Claire is Arthur's senior, committee commander, and later fellow soldier. She recruits him because his strength can protect students but expects him to work within the committee. In the final campaign, Arthur explicitly values Claire and the Beast Corps as a path to empowerment for non-mages, while trusting her to command the exoform vanguard and guard the trapped group. • Kaspian Bladeheart: Kaspian is Claire's uncle and an important source of her sword training. His disciplined reputation and connection to the Adventurers Guild frame Claire's early martial education, while her decision to teach at the Bladeheart Sword Institution lets her carry that training forward after she can no longer channel mana. (Chapters 51 and 166–169)
• Curtis and Kathyln Glayder: Claire leads both Glayder siblings through the Disciplinary Committee crisis and tries to keep Curtis from throwing his life away in anger. During recovery, Kathyln's immediate recognition that Claire remains strong beyond her core breaks through Claire's composure and helps affirm a future not measured only by magical output. • Bairon Wykes and Varay Aurae: Bairon and Varay become Claire's final-campaign comrades. Claire understands Bairon's choice to act as the shield that stabilizes their portal, continues guarding the others while he does so, and then leaves Taegrin Caelum with Varay and his body. Their escape makes her a witness to his last act and a participant in carrying its cost home. (Chapters 526–529)

Mana, aether, and abilities

Claire begins as a dual-elemental fire-and-wind augmenter. The destruction of her mana core permanently removes her ability to cast conventional magic, and she does not acquire an aether art. Her later combat ability comes from sword knowledge, command experience, and an externally powered Beast Corps exoform rather than an unexplained restoration.

Former dual-elemental swordsmanship

As a student, Claire channels fire and wind through a golden rapier, projecting spear-like attacks and adapting their attributes to an opponent's distance and defense. Kaspian's training gives her precise footwork and fencing discipline, while committee exercises show that she can direct a team as she fights. After her core is destroyed, those techniques remain knowledge she can teach, but she cannot personally reproduce their magical effects. (Chapters 51, 57, 66–68, and 166–169)

Exoform piloting and command

Claire's exoform translates a non-mage pilot's movements into those of a large, upright griffon-like combat body built from mana-beast material, metal, runes, and a transparent protective barrier. It has claws, great physical reach, wings, and fire salt-imbued weapons designed to bypass conventional mana shields. Claire leads other pilots and can destroy repeated aetheric manifestations, but the machine does not make her equal to Agrona or the strongest asuras; Arthur explicitly sends her away before that confrontation. • Golden rapier: Claire's academy-era weapon is a slender golden rapier used to focus her fire-and-wind augmentation. It reflects her Bladeheart training but is not established as a separately named relic, and it cannot restore her spellcasting after the loss of her core. (Chapters 51, 57, and 66–68)
