Ryan's Drones

Ryan's Drones are a changing set of small aerial machines used for reconnaissance, communication control, and emergency broadcasts.

History

Reconnaissance across hostile territory

Ryan Polive brings drones and a tablet on the expedition toward Henlour. While Ren's fighters engage Monolith pursuers, Ryan and Smallsnake use aerial coverage alongside communication blocking to keep the encounter isolated. Near the dwarven capital, Ryan flies a drone high enough to reduce the chance of detection and locates the artificial monument marking Henlour's concealed entrance. The devices let a physically vulnerable technician extend the party's vision far beyond the ground team. (Chapters 289, 295, 298)

Search and final evacuation

During the mana-compressor mission, Ryan monitors a drone feed, zooms into a forest clearing, and identifies Leopold, Hein, and Ava while they flee. In the final battle, he throws a handful of miniature drones into the air and uses them to relay Amanda's evacuation message toward scattered combatants and safe areas. The same platform therefore evolves from scouting equipment into a distributed emergency communication network. (Chapters 570, 854)

Properties and functions

The drones are small aerial units linked to Ryan's tablet or control system. They provide live visual feeds with digital zoom, cover large areas from altitude, and can distribute prerecorded or live messages. Ryan also operates them alongside separate hacking equipment that blocks communications; the chapters do not establish that the drones themselves generate the suppression field. High flight reduces visual detection but also limits image detail, and the corpus gives no battery life, range, armament, or durability. (Chapters 295, 298, 570, 854)

Owners and users

  • Ryan Polive: Designer, owner, controller, and only demonstrated operator throughout the drones' deployments. (Chapters 289–298, 570, 854)
  • Ren Dover: Commander and beneficiary of their reconnaissance, but not their owner or direct pilot. (Chapters 289–298)
  • Amanda Stern and scattered alliance fighters: Amanda supplies the final evacuation instruction; the fighters receive the broadcast rather than controlling the drones. (Chapter 854)
