Thomas

Thomas is Ren's cigarette-smoking black-market contact, later shown supervising portal security. He is distinct from the Lock professor Thomas D. Shurle.

Biography

Contact and covert ally

Thomas meets Ren as a relaxed middle-aged intermediary, escorts him through restricted portals, and helps him collect a skill reward after the early dungeon incident. When Ren predicts trouble at Elijah's party, Thomas acts on the warning, raises the response to code black, deploys personnel, and later conceals Ren's role as the informant. Years later he reappears with the same disordered, alcohol-scented manner, but his work remains serious: during the alliance crisis he supervises hundreds of operators watching portal feeds and warns guards to remain alert. Appearance and personality

Thomas is a middle-aged blond man with a lazy look, messy clothing, and persistent scents of cigarettes and alcohol. His haggard presentation disguises operational competence and discretion; he responds quickly to credible danger and protects a source rather than seeking recognition. (Chapters 25, 31–49, 492–502)

Powers and abilities

Thomas has access to restricted portals, emergency-response staff, vault security, and large surveillance rooms. He can move rapidly enough to disappear from Ren's view during an alert, but no exact rank or named combat technique is supplied. His primary strength is access and coordination. • Ren Dover: Thomas facilitates Ren's rewards, trusts his warning, and protects his anonymity (Chapters 25–49).
• Leopold Ray: Leopold's later drinking prompts a comparison to Thomas's alcohol habit, but the corpus does not develop a close relationship between them (Chapter 493).
