Black Pylons

The Black Pylons are enormous underground Entropy Ore structures built by the Lightning Manor to imprison living Abominations. By keeping a fixed population contained, the network suppresses new spawns at the same tier and helps its operators predict where weaker Abominations will appear.

History

Hidden structures beneath Aterium

The first Pylon appears when the Storm Eagle attacks a buried structure in Area 23. Its outer shell can be breached, but its inner Entropy Ore layer contains a High Abomination and suppresses Mana within the building. A portal network connects multiple Pylons, and unauthorized entry is treated as a capital security violation. Shang enters by accident during the attack and is expelled rather than executed. (Chapters 303–304)

Queen Primordium later gives Shang the institutional explanation. The Research Department buried Pylons across the world, placing one High Abomination in each so the limited global spawn quota would remain occupied. Measurements from the contained creatures also allow the Lightning Manor to estimate the area in which True Abominations will appear. Continued growth of the Child of Calamity eventually produces Arch and Ancestral Abominations beyond the old network's capacity, making the original configuration obsolete. (Chapter 759)

Shang later recognizes each Pylon as a giant Isolation Chamber made from mid-Sixth-Realm Entropy Ore. The material can resist an Archmage's full assault and isolates Mana and Abominations, though a sufficiently powerful Ancestral Beast can damage the structure. Shang reproduces the underlying spawn-suppression principle by keeping Abominations alive inside later Isolation Chambers. (Chapters 782 and 918)

Repurposing and destruction

After Shang becomes a Sword Lord, Gregorio proposes reviving the network at a higher tier. Shang will summon Abomination Lords into new Pylons beneath Lightning Manor territory, initially ten and then ten more after his next advancement. Keeping those Lords alive should prevent equivalent random spawns locally, while an elaborate Magic Circle provides a public cover for the operation. (Chapter 934)

The repurposed structures remain temporary. Once Shang gains supreme control over Entropy, he converts every Abomination prison and every piece of Entropy Ore in Aterium into Mana and Entropy, explicitly including the Pylons, and absorbs the result into his body. The containment network therefore no longer exists at the supplied endpoint. (Chapter 1018)

Abilities and properties

• Entropy Ore walls isolate Mana and hold Abominations that ordinary material could not safely contain. A Pylon is effectively a vast specialized Isolation Chamber. (Chapters 303 and 782)
• Maintaining living Abominations inside occupies the world's apparent spawn quota for that tier, reducing random appearances elsewhere. The system must be expanded when the Child of Calamity advances and raises the number or level of possible invaders. (Chapters 759 and 934)
• Waves from the imprisoned Abominations can be measured to estimate where lower-tier Abominations will next appear. This supports prediction, not direct control of every spawn. (Chapters 759 and 936)
• The structures are durable rather than indestructible: powerful Ancestral Beasts can breach outer layers, and Shang eventually converts and consumes all their Entropy Ore. (Chapters 303, 782, and 1018)
