Venina

Venina Paulinus, known among fighters as Scorpion, is an HR Alliance director, an advanced Wargod, Li Yao's wife, and Li Wei's mother. After Li Wei's death, she becomes one of the principal architects of the couple's campaign against Luo Feng, using family influence, surveillance access, hired weapons, and threats against civilians.

Biography

Investigating Li Wei's death

Venina first appears grieving with Li Yao while the couple investigates their son's killing. Her position as the HR Alliance's China director gives her early access to Luo Feng's training-camp information. Through her nephew Candace, she presses for Luo Feng to be killed during the Australian life-or-death trial, supplies information to Li Yao, and monitors the operation even after the Alliance chairman warns that attacking Luo Feng's family would expose the Paulinus family to collective sanctions. From covert attacks to public coercion

After celebrating the mistaken report of Luo Feng's death, Venina is the first to bring Li Yao news that he has returned. When Luo Feng later corners her husband in Jiang-Nan, she reveals that she planted T111 bombs among civilians and threatens to detonate them unless Li Yao is released. The threat works temporarily, but it also exposes how much of the campaign she personally planned, including the bounty, laser cannon, and attacks on Luo Feng's family. (Chapters 188, 190, and 194)

Arrest, trial, and execution

Luo Feng responds through the Palace of Wargods, assembling evidence that Venina and Li Yao directed attacks on his parents. Representatives arrest the couple on arrival in Paris, and the court finds both guilty of ordering violence against a representative's family. Venina receives an immediately enacted death sentence and is beheaded by Representative Amuhan in the wilderness. (Chapters 195–198)

Appearance and personality

Venina is a blonde European woman who speaks Chinese with an accent. The fighter community's nickname “Scorpion” reflects the text's description of her as calculating and poisonously cruel: she often works behind Li Yao's more visible violence, but she is also fiercely attached to her husband and son and becomes openly desperate when Li Yao is threatened.
