Niklas Liekhoven
Niklas Liekhoven is one of Michael Fang's privileged classmates and an early antagonist outside the Origin Expanse. He uses his family's standing, early War Rune awakening, and a group of followers to ridicule Michael until the graduation archery contest overturns their assumed hierarchy.
Biography
War Rune Awakening and the First Territory
Niklas displays the War Rune he forms two days before graduation while teacher Kelen Dame theatrically “reprimands” him in a way meant to draw attention. At the afterparty he threatens and mocks Michael Fang, boasting about entering Saphirelake and assuming an ordinary-background classmate remains weaker. Niklas stakes two million dollars in an archery contest, hits the early targets, and then misses the specified purple grape by striking a green one. His disqualification leaves him unable to stop Michael from winning the contracted wager and humiliating the group that had bullied him. (Chapters 2, 64, 67–73)
The Lord Rift and Daniel’s Loss
Niklas does not return to the action in this phase. Michael thinks of him only as a low benchmark while considering Kaleb's pre-awakening strength, concluding that Kaleb already rivals a Tier 0 Lord and could defeat someone like Niklas without difficulty. The comparison provides no evidence about Niklas's progress after graduation, admission to Saphirelake, territory, survival, relationships, or present power, leaving his later life unresolved. (Chapter 186)
Appearance and personality
The corpus does not securely describe Niklas's hair, eyes, height, build, or clothing. He is status-conscious, boastful, mocking, quick to anger, and accustomed to followers validating him. He interprets Michael's restraint as weakness and nearly attacks when provoked about money and confidence, but teacher Kelen Dame restrains him. His willingness to accept a large formal bet shows confidence in his archery, while his response to Michael's revealed War Rune and skill exposes how dependent that confidence is on social assumptions. (Chapters 2, 67–73)
War Rune and archery
Niklas awakens a Tierless War Rune shortly before graduation and reaches its Mid stage by the afterparty, improving his strength, perception, and eyesight beyond an ordinary human. He has trained from childhood and is one of the better archers in the gathering, hitting two difficult targets before failing the color-specific third. The corpus never names a Soultrait, establishes a territory, or confirms the promised Saphirelake admission, so no later progression can be reconstructed. (Chapters 2, 67–73, 186)
Relationships
Michael Fang
Michael remembers Niklas as a class bully aligned with their teacher and deliberately concealed enough ability to be underestimated. Niklas treats him as a backgroundless target, while Michael uses the contest and binding wager to expose that misjudgment. No reconciliation, renewed rivalry, or later meeting appears in the local corpus. (Chapters 2, 64, 67–73, 186)
Kelen Dame and Niklas's followers
Kelen Dame amplifies Niklas's status in class, joins his ridicule of Michael, and later restrains him from throwing a punch because antagonizing the Zenovia family would be foolish. Niklas's friends obey gestures, contribute money to his wager, and celebrate his early shots, but their support cannot prevent his disqualification. (Chapters 2, 67–73)
Items
Bow Artifact
Niklas manifests an unnamed Bow Artifact for the graduation competition and supplies his own arrows from War Rune storage. It is sufficient for the early indoor targets but receives no name, star rating, enchantment, maker, or subsequent history. (Chapter 70)
