Necrocore

The Necrocore is the immense black crystal the Progenitors of Umbrasol create to accumulate Death Energy and raise their High-Level World toward Supreme status. Its construction turns a volunteer Progenitor's Eclipse Bone Physique into a vessel, while its later sabotage causes the catastrophe that kills Umbrasol and sustains the Reaper's Veil long after the world itself is gone.

History

A vessel for Umbrasol's ambition

Zylarith approaches Umbrasol's Progenitors when their research and world have reached an apparent ceiling. He proposes that a High-Level World might become Supreme if it could accumulate comparable energy, and identifies Death Energy's capacity to attract more of itself as their possible route. The idea motivates centuries of research with craftsmen from across the Universe. Ordinary materials and artificial physiques fail, leaving the Progenitors with one workable reservoir: their own Eclipse Bone Physique. (Chapters 1717 and 1751)

The weakest Progenitor voluntarily undergoes a ritual that breaks down his physical form, crystallizes his physique, and stabilizes it with rare materials. The resulting Necrocore is placed at Umbrasol's center. It absorbs and refines Death Energy for hundreds of thousands of years, eventually holding an amount comparable to Umbrasol itself, while the surviving Progenitors use their connection to the sacrificed Progenitor to draw on that reserve. The corpus establishes no continuing consciousness for the transformed volunteer; his role is therefore distinct from the resident soul later revealed within Bloodedge. (Chapter 1751)

Sabotage and the Reaper's Veil

An overwhelmingly powerful intruder later revealed as Ul'Thakar breaks the supposedly indestructible Necrocore by touching it with physical force. He alters Umbrasol's conditions, suppresses its population, and removes their memories before leaving the cracked Core to leak. Zylarith observes the aftermath but does not repair it. Umbrasol's Progenitors cannot seal the leak or quickly create a replacement, and they remain because abandoning the world would condemn their children. Escaping Death Energy kills the population, traps souls, and contributes to the formation of the Reaper's Veil and its Wraith defenses. (Chapters 1751–1753 and 1937)

This later revelation corrects the public account Nux first receives with the Reaper's Veil mission. That account blames the disaster on uncontrolled accumulation and the Progenitors' ambition; the world-history vision shows that outside sabotage, followed by memory erasure, created the fatal crack. The Necrocore remains the concentration of Death Energy at the center of the ruined world and the objective protected by most of its Wraiths. (Chapters 1717, 1743, and 1751–1753)

After Umbrasol

Nux reaches the hundred-meter-wide crystal but forces Umbrasol's World Core to emerge instead of absorbing the Necrocore. After he spends a month devouring the world, the Necrocore remains in the empty site and continues leaking energy into the Reaper's Veil. Nux theorizes that the Veil concealed the relic from his black hole. He deliberately leaves it in place because its reserve maintains the concealment that his family uses as a hidden base, estimating that the accumulated energy could sustain the Veil for thousands or tens of thousands of years even though it can no longer regenerate. The Veil later disappears unexpectedly, exposing Umbrasol's destruction to the Universe. Nux considers retrieving the Necrocore for the Eclipse Bone Physique, but his family persuades him not to approach a site that may already be watched by the Supreme Worlds. His statement that the relic “should still be there” is a theory; the corpus does not confirm its survival, recovery, or destruction after the Veil's collapse. (Chapter 2077)

Abilities and properties

• The Necrocore stores Death Energy through the crystallized Eclipse Bone Physique and refines the stored energy into a more potent form. The Umbrasol Progenitors called its capacity limitless, but this claim was never safely tested: an Infinity cracked the relic, and the leaked reserve is treated as vast but finite once Umbrasol can no longer replenish it. • Its creators described the crystal as immune to physical and magical attacks. Ul'Thakar's effortless physical damage demonstrates a decisive counter and disproves that protection at Infinity scale. (Chapters 1751–1752 and 1937)
• It emits a passive corruptive field of Death Energy that makes ordinary approach dangerous. After the crack, the uncontrolled output drains life, feeds Deathstorms, and helps sustain the Reaper's Veil. The Veil's concealment and soul-trapping behavior emerge from the larger interaction of Primordial Energies; they should not all be treated as independent programmed abilities of the crystal. • Its surviving reserve is comparable to the energy once held by Umbrasol and maintains the Veil against constant erosion by Universal Energy. Nux estimates a remaining duration of thousands or tens of thousands of years, but the Veil disappears earlier than expected for an unstated reason. (Chapters 1755 and 2077)
• The Necrocore's physical form is a black crystal roughly one hundred meters across. Nux later wants its Eclipse Bone Physique, but never demonstrates that he can extract the physique without consuming or transforming the relic. (Chapters 1748, 1755, and 2077)
