Varys

Varys is an Elar'zhun officer in Sharnoth's council who coordinates reports, deployments, and orders during Khaemorr's war with the Leander family. His scenes trace the faction's collapse from daily losses through defections and emergency directives.

Biography

Reporting a war Khaemorr cannot contain

Varys first interrupts a council meeting to report another ten allied worlds fallen and the Leander sigil left beside their leaders. Unlike members who respond primarily with outrage, he focuses on the compounding political danger: continued losses will convince dependent worlds that Khaemorr cannot protect them and cause the faction to disintegrate. Sharnoth rejects an appeal to the Supreme Worlds and orders Varys to distribute reinforcements and reporting artifacts instead. He carries out the plan despite privately recognizing that the targeted weak worlds do not directly threaten him. (Chapters 2034–2036)

The defensive network fails, and Varys's reports become routine until Vladnir, a Middle-Level World, declares neutrality. He provides Sharnoth and the council with operational details, then obeys the order to remove Khaemorr's Godspark, Chaotic Energy, and portal from Vladnir. When further worlds defect to Aurendor, Sharnoth instead orders their extermination. Varys is horrified by the strategic shift but suppresses the objection and prepares to comply, showing loyalty under an increasingly unstable command. (Chapters 2040–2042)

Remaining at the center of the collapsing faction

Varys continues serving after multiple councilors leave and after Sharnoth reasserts control through punishment. He greets the calmer Queen at the reorganized council and remains responsible for urgent intelligence rather than joining the defections. His endurance may reflect loyalty, self-interest, or lack of an alternative; the corpus does not establish his private motive. (Chapter 2066)

His latest report concerns the four Supreme Worlds' unprecedented demand for every Umbrasol mission record. Varys connects it to the intensified Universal Rumbling and correctly treats the collective statement as historically exceptional, even though he does not initially understand its connection to Nux. He remains alive and in Sharnoth's service when Nux ends his conversation with her to respond to that danger. (Chapter 2078)

Appearance and personality

Varys is an almost two-meter-tall Elar'zhun with faintly glowing, marble-pale skin, silver eyes, hair resembling starlight or crystal thread, graceful movements, and an unnaturally perfect body. Like others of his race, his voice is melodic and persuasive. (Chapter 2034)

He is efficient, analytical, and willing to interrupt etiquette when intelligence is urgent. The narration also describes him as cruel and associates him with his race's exterminationist pursuit of stolen perfection; however, his shown council actions are primarily administrative, and he expresses horror when Sharnoth first orders allied worlds destroyed. (Chapters 2034 and 2042)

Abilities and cultivation

No cultivation stage, named Law, combat technique, or personal activation is established for Varys. His race's beauty and persuasive voice are presented as dangerous social traits, but the corpus does not demonstrate him supernaturally compelling a target or explain range, resistance, cost, or counters. They should therefore not be treated as a confirmed charm ability. (Chapter 2034)

Varys's demonstrated competence is operational: he collects rapidly changing reports, deploys forces and artifacts, tracks portals and travel times, and recognizes political consequences. These are administrative skills rather than cultivation powers, and no progression beyond that role is shown. (Chapters 2034–2042 and 2078)

Relationships

  • Sharnoth: Varys serves Sharnoth as a trusted reporting and implementation officer. He fears her anger and questions one unprecedented extermination order, but consistently carries out her commands. (Chapters 2034–2078)
  • Maeve: Varys serves beside Maeve on the council and often supports her diagnosis of Khaemorr's worsening position. He later supplies the portal information that helps Sharnoth realize Maeve has defected. (Chapters 2035–2042)
  • Nux: Varys never meaningfully engages Nux directly. He knows him as the enemy dismantling Khaemorr's faction and delivers the Supreme Worlds' order that prompts Nux to leave his call with Sharnoth. (Chapters 2034–2078)

Items

No personal weapon or artifact is established for Varys. The reporting scrolls, portals, Godsparks, and deployment artifacts he handles belong to Khaemorr's administration rather than his individual inventory. (Chapters 2034–2042 and 2078)
