Sauren

Sauren Thorn was the Complete Saint leader of the Ashenhelm Clan. Grief and rage after his clan's destruction drive him into Arcturus's campaign against Nux, but his attempt to reproduce his own loss by attacking the Lust State ends with a coerced concession, a failed deathmatch, and his death.

Biography

Turning family loss into collective punishment

Sauren returns to find his clan destroyed and watches his wives and children take their own lives while under Nux's control. With other powers unwilling to oppose Nux and Arcturus withdrawing support, Sauren initially has no route to revenge. Arcturus's later failure to capture Nux gives him another chance: Sauren and his aide Ragnar help plan a Dragon invasion of the Lust State, reasoning that attacking Aisha's people will lure Nux out and make him feel comparable loss. (Chapters 1232–1233)

The plan deliberately targets civilians. Sauren watches the assault, mocks Nux with the deaths, and relies on Divine Dragons to prevent direct retaliation. Nux counters by bringing powerful allies and evacuating the Succubi, while provoking Sauren with claims about abusing his dead wives. Enraged, Sauren accepts a one-on-one deathmatch in exchange for allowing the evacuation. Nux's manipulation defeats the immediate hostage strategy, and Sauren returns to Arcturus with only the promise that he will win the formal challenge. (Chapters 1233–1241)

The deathmatch

Sauren enters the duel confident that the cultivation gap between a Complete Saint and a Complete Semi-Saint will decide it. He attacks with a sword, speed, stamina, and destructive spells, but anger makes his approach repetitive. Nux evades until his adaptive body catches and surpasses Sauren's speed, then severs both arms. Sauren's spells had already failed to connect, leaving him no meaningful way to continue. (Chapters 1248–1251)

Nux beheads him and Sauren dies recognizing that he should not have pursued the feud. He refuses a final display of fear and accepts the death once it becomes unavoidable, but that composure cannot undo his earlier choice to make uninvolved Succubi instruments of revenge. His death ends the Ashenhelm leader's personal campaign and clears the confrontation for Nux's larger dispute with Arcturus. (Chapters 1251–1252)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not provide a stable description of Sauren's hair, eyes, clothing, height, or build. In his final arc, his most consistent visible traits are bloodshot eyes and expressions shaped by grief, rage, and later fear. (Chapters 1232–1236 and 1250–1251)

Sauren is capable of planning and initially recognizes that Nux may see through an obvious trap. His need for revenge nevertheless overwhelms that caution, making him vulnerable to taunts about his family and causing him to accept a duel arranged on Nux's terms. His final acceptance of death shows personal pride, not a broader repudiation of the civilians he endangered. (Chapters 1232–1241 and 1251)

Abilities and cultivation

Sauren is a Complete Saint and one of the stronger Saints in the Ancestral Order. He demonstrates high physical speed, sustained stamina, swordsmanship, and destructive magic cast during close combat. His spells can endanger the area and even himself, but none connects with Nux; the corpus gives them no names, elements, measured range, or activation costs. (Chapters 1248–1251)

His cultivation advantage is substantial enough that observers expect a Complete Semi-Saint to have almost no chance against him. Nux counters it through superior reactions, training-built endurance, and mid-battle adaptation, which gradually removes Sauren's speed advantage. Once disarmed literally and physically, Sauren shows no regeneration, defensive Law, or alternate technique capable of preventing beheading. No named Law or later stage exists because the duel is his final battle. (Chapters 1248–1251)

Relationships

  • Nux: Sauren seeks revenge on Nux for the Ashenhelm Clan and his family. Nux manipulates that grief to secure the Succubi's evacuation, then kills him in their deathmatch. (Chapters 1232–1252)
  • Arcturus: Arcturus supplies the military power behind Sauren's trap but treats him as a disposable route to Nux. After the plan fails, Sauren depends on winning the formal challenge to retain his value. (Chapters 1232–1241)
  • Ragnar: Ragnar is Sauren's trusted aide and co-planner. The two share the goal of inflicting on Nux the loss that destroyed Ashenhelm, though Ragnar does not participate in Sauren's final duel. (Chapters 1232–1236)
  • Aisha: Sauren targets Aisha's homeland because of her closeness to its people and her role in the Ashenhelm conflict. Their connection is antagonistic and indirect; his plan treats her loved ones as leverage rather than confronting her personally. (Chapters 1232–1235)

Items

Sauren uses an unnamed sword in his deathmatch. Its origin and properties are not explained, and it falls with his severed arm; no named artifact or lasting inventory is established. (Chapters 1250–1251)
