Malcharon

Malcharon Nyxshade is the Primordial leader of Tandris's Nightveils. Confronted with the certain destruction of his world, he chooses survival through surrender and becomes the commander of the Tandris Sovereigns who enter Nux's service.

Biography

Leadership during Tandris's doomed war

Malcharon enters the conflict as one of Tandris's three Primordial leaders, sharing responsibility for a war whose apparent balance depends on covert help from a higher faction. After Kaelith disappears into Ember's shadow, Malcharon and Inferath confront the Velcrian leaders but hesitate to expose the aid they had been given. Their hand is forced when seventeen hidden Primordials emerge; those supposed allies then decide to erase both sides to conceal their own violation of faction rules. Aeliana's intervention destroys that force and leaves Tandris politically exposed rather than saved. (Chapter 1844)

When Aeliana explains that Velcria may survive by denying involvement while Tandris will still be punished, Malcharon presses the consequence instead of accepting extinction. He proposes surrender because he recognizes that the survivors cannot defend their world against either the higher faction or opportunists in Velcria. This shifts his priority from winning the war to preserving whatever fraction of his command can still be moved beyond Tandris. (Chapters 1851–1852)

Choosing servitude to preserve survivors

Malcharon offers Nux the three Tandris Primordials and three hundred thousand Sovereigns, even allowing them to be used as expendable troops. He initially presents the offer as a leader's effort to keep his soldiers together, but Nux exposes the harsher pressure behind it: other powers would not risk sheltering a force hunted by a Middle-Level World, while forces capable of ignoring that threat would have little need for them. Malcharon nevertheless accepts Nux's absolute authority and allows a Seed of Death to be planted in his core, trading freedom for the only protection he believes attainable. (Chapter 1853)

Nux soon kills Kaelith for defiance and appoints Malcharon to sort the remaining army. About two hundred thousand Sovereigns ultimately agree to submit. Malcharon offers to kill those who remain behind if they might become troublesome and uses his Aura to force an immediate answer from wavering soldiers; Nux warns that such conduct will undermine their loyalty, revealing the tension between Malcharon's ruthless survival logic and the task of actually retaining followers. He then helps inventory the captured artifacts and accepts the slave seals imposed on the force. (Chapters 1854 and 1857)

After the transfer to a dead world, Aeliana establishes a protected boundary against its Primordial beasts and Malcharon orders his troops to construct a base within it. His latest role is therefore not that of an independent world leader but of a subordinate commander responsible for settling and organizing the survivors he chose to save. (Chapter 1860)

Appearance and personality

Malcharon is a Nightveil, a race depicted as wraithlike beings formed from semitranslucent shadow mist with faintly glowing eyes; the corpus does not give him a more individualized physical description. His bearing is controlled and difficult to read, even while negotiating the loss of his world. (Chapters 1836 and 1853)

He is pragmatic to the point of cruelty. Survival and the preservation of a usable portion of his force take precedence over freedom, reputation, family ties, or those he judges impossible to save. That calculation makes him decisive under catastrophic pressure, but his willingness to threaten or abandon his own people also frightens the soldiers whose loyalty he needs. Abilities and cultivation

Primordial cultivation and Aura

Malcharon is a Primordial, placing him above the Sovereigns he commands. He directly demonstrates an Aura strong enough to pressure the assembled Sovereigns into answering Nux in unison, but the scene does not show it injuring them or establish its maximum range. Its use is coercive rather than a full combat demonstration. (Chapters 1844 and 1857)

Nightveil racial arts

Nightveils as a race are credited with Void Rift, which disrupts Mana Flow; Phantom Form, which grants partial immunity to physical attacks; and Mind Shroud, which produces illusions and mental control. The corpus does not show Malcharon activating any of these arts personally, so their exact strength, duration, costs, counters, and relationship to his own Law remain unknown. They should be treated as racial competencies available in principle, not demonstrated feats unique to him. (Chapter 1836)

Seed of Death restriction

Nux places a Seed of Death at the center of Malcharon's core after ordering him not to resist. The seed is not Malcharon's power: it is an externally imposed control that allows Nux to kill him if he disobeys or attempts harm. Its installation succeeds because Malcharon deliberately suppresses resistance under Aeliana's threat, and no method of removing or countering it is established. (Chapter 1853)

Relationships

• Nux Leander: Malcharon recognizes Nux as the only viable protector for the displaced Tandris force and submits to him as “Lord.” Their relationship is founded on necessity, absolute orders, and the Seed of Death rather than freely negotiated allegiance. (Chapters 1853–1857)
• Aeliana: Aeliana's overwhelming intervention saves Malcharon from the hidden Primordials while making the scale of Tandris's helplessness undeniable. She later secures the territory in which his soldiers establish their new base. (Chapters 1844 and 1860)
• Inferath: Inferath is Malcharon's fellow Tandris leader and follows him into submission. Inferath sometimes tries to moderate Malcharon's blunt statements, but both accept Nux's control when no safer course remains. (Chapters 1844 and 1853)
• Tandris survivors: Malcharon sacrifices the prospect of saving everyone to preserve those willing to follow him. His methods keep a large force together but also expose a persistent weakness in their loyalty. (Chapters 1853 and 1857)
