Thirteen
Thirteen, revealed as Zion Leventis, is a black-haired teenage fighter from another world and the being called the Second Strongest System. Though physically weak by Elysian standards, his calculation, resourcefulness, and refusal to treat strength as the only path to victory give Lux the strategic insight needed for his final war.
Biography
The rescue from the Abyss and the final war
The “Thirteen” indexed in Chapter 856 is not this character: the word describes the count of Gaap’s thirteen named creatures. No teenage fighter named Thirteen appears, acts, or forms a relationship in the Battle of El Hazard material. His actual introduction occurs much later and in another world, so treating Chapter 856 as a meeting with Gaap would create a false identity and chronology. (Chapter 856)
When Lux actually meets Thirteen, the teenager is battered, has a dislocated arm, and measures only around Grade-D Apostle strength, yet continues searching for someone important who is fighting alone. World rules prevent Lux, Maple, and Cinnamon from materially helping him, so they observe as he defeats far stronger monsters through prediction, terrain, traps, redirected enemies, precise throwing knives, and explosives. Thirteen eventually explains that no single hero should carry a world: allies and even powers beyond one’s familiar “boxes” must be enlisted. His friends arrive to fight beside him, proving his lesson in practice, and he pushes Lux through a portal with the insight that later inspires the Necromancer of Heaven to call souls from other worlds. (Chapters 1196–1201, 1220)
Open Heaven’s Gate
After Lux’s story ends, the organization called the Sentinels identifies Thirteen as one of two future candidates whose own epics are not yet complete. The projection reveals the candidates’ names as Zion Leventis and Ethan Gremory, placing Zion’s name with the already recognized image of Thirteen. Lux approves despite Thirteen being weaker than the current members and decides to repay the favor by opening Heaven’s Gate near the Bifrost Bridge. Thirteen’s latest status is therefore alive but unresolved: he has not yet joined, because surviving and completing his own legendary struggle are explicit conditions. (Chapter 1234)
Appearance and personality
Thirteen appears no older than sixteen, with short black hair, green eyes, and black military armor that is badly torn when Lux meets him. Even bruised, bleeding, and carrying a dislocated arm, he remains calm enough that Lux senses a formidable mind inside a weak body. He is impatient, stand-offish, blunt, and openly contemptuous of hero complexes, yet his harshness serves a protective lesson. He accepts limited help, cares deeply about the person he is seeking, and smiles when his own companions arrive. (Chapters 1196–1198, 1234)
Tactical abilities
Predictive combat and precision weapons
Thirteen fights as though he knows when and where attacks will land. He evades superior monsters, targets their eyes, ricochets throwing knives into difficult angles, and uses two short swords when surrounded. The corpus shows extraordinary calculation rather than invulnerability: indirect effects still graze him, his arm is dislocated, his armor tears, and sustained fighting exhausts him enough to require rest. Relative to Elysium he is only around Grade-D Apostle strength, so each victory depends on avoiding direct exchanges and exploiting exact weaknesses. (Chapters 1196–1198)
Terrain, traps, and strategic instruction
Thirteen turns terrain and enemies into weapons, luring monsters into one another, planting traps, and remotely detonating explosives to bury giant beetles in an avalanche. He also recognizes strategic assumptions beyond the immediate fight, teaching Lux to enlist a world’s people and reach outside the apparent boundaries of Elysium and Solais. These methods require preparation, observation, and allies; they do not remove bodily limits or guarantee survival against a horde. His friends’ timely arrival is the practical proof that resourcefulness includes accepting collective strength rather than pretending to win alone. (Chapters 1197–1198, 1201, 1220)
Spatial access
Thirteen produces two short swords from hazy spatial distortions beside his hands, suggesting access to stored equipment or a spatial inventory. The corpus does not define the capacity, range, activation cost, or whether this function belongs specifically to his System nature, so it should not be treated as unrestricted teleportation. Its demonstrated use is limited to retrieving weapons immediately before battle. (Chapter 1198)
Relationships
- Lux: Thirteen’s demonstration and advice overturn Lux’s lone-hero thinking and inspire the multiversal use of Heaven’s necromancy; Lux later seeks to repay that guidance. (Chapters 1196–1201, 1220, 1234)
- Maple and Cinnamon: The girls know and care for Thirteen, bring Lux to him, offer limited healing, and explain that their world’s rules forbid more direct assistance. (Chapter 1196)
- Lily: Lily directs Lux to Thirteen as the person able to supply an answer against Daniel, although Thirteen says he does not know a goddess by that name. (Chapter 1196)
- His unnamed companions: A butler and several young fighters arrive by military helicopter to stand with him, embodying his principle that great battles are not fought alone. (Chapter 1198)
