Lazarus
Lazarus is Lux’s sixth Named Creature, a Great Flame Skull named and titled Guardian of Souls. He combines fire and ice into Cold Flames, scouts and guards through stationary invisibility, and eventually develops into an Ancient Flame Skull whose defining contribution to Lux is explosive magical power. (Chapters 447, 778, 1219)
Biography
Heaven’s Gate and the continental wars
Lux names the hovering Flame Skull Lazarus, causing his blue fire to brighten and establishing permanent loyalty. Lazarus accepts service willingly, befriends Eiko over their shared enjoyment of burning things, and volunteers to guard Lux despite incomplete memories of dying after betrayal during an earlier guard duty. In later fighting he blinks away after ambushing Nero, exploits allied blizzards, and serves as one of the summons trusted to stop a friendly duel from becoming fatal. (Chapters 447, 464, 550, 634)
His combination of power and restraint shapes his place in the group. Lazarus’s flames do not burn people Lux recognizes as allies, while his fire-and-ice spell list supplies area control without requiring close combat. Although already fully evolved as a Great Flame Skull at naming, he later receives further species advancement through Lux’s growth, showing that “fully evolved” described his then-current line rather than an absolute end state. (Chapters 447, 505, 778)
The rescue from the Abyss and the final war
During the escape through the Abyss, the Ancient Flame Skull burns sections of an enemy city to distract Demigods and is easy for Lux to call because of the surrounding Abyssal environment. In the final war he stands among Demigod leaders, commands forces against Golden Abominations, and intercepts breath attacks aimed at Heaven’s Gate’s headquarters, using destructive magic as active defense. (Chapters 1159, 1187, 1208)
Lazarus ultimately merges into Lux with the other principal summons. His named contribution is “explosiveness,” distinguishing his concentrated magical output from Orion’s endurance or ALL-MITE’s raw strength. The merger completes his movement from a skull uncertain about his past into an integral, trusted component of Lux’s final power against Daniel. (Chapter 1219)
Appearance and personality
Lazarus is a disembodied skull surrounded by bright blue flames, with glowing embers in his eye sockets. He can speak, dream, and display dry humor despite lacking a body. Curious about his forgotten life, he is watchful, loyal, and readily amused by destruction; his gentle nudging of Eiko also shows that his dangerous appearance does not prevent warmth toward allies. (Chapter 447)
Abilities and skills
Cold Flames is a fire-and-ice ray that Lazarus can cast without mana. All his attacks add Cold Flame damage over time and reduce affected enemies’ fire and ice resistance by thirty percent. His broader spell list includes fireballs, walls, storms, shields, frost rays, ice prisons, and other offensive or defensive effects; he has eighty-percent resistance to both elements and can communicate with Wraiths, Ghosts, Banshees, and similar soul beings. (Chapter 447)
Lazarus can turn invisible while he remains still, Blink away after attacks, and gain enhanced returns from Beast Cores through Guardian of Souls. These strengths favor guarding, ambush, and magical bombardment, but stationary invisibility restricts movement, and stronger enemies still require coordinated defense. His later Ancient form reaches Demigod scale, yet the corpus gives no revised numerical durations or proof of limitless spell output. (Chapters 447, 464, 778, 1187, 1208)
