Great General Gideon

Great General Gideon commands the Ammarian Kingdom’s main army in the War of Lions. He uses superior manpower, centralized discipline, and a national monster-control artifact to press the Yelan defenders, but his willingness to absorb casualties for a reversal leaves him vulnerable to Lux’s deception and capture.

Biography

Heaven’s Gate and the continental wars

Gideon begins as commander of the Plains campaign and later concentrates roughly two hundred thousand soldiers for the decisive battle. He allies with Nero, grants the youth freedom to duel Lux, and drives the Yelan army backward through numbers and discipline. When Corpse Explosion turns his own dead into weapons, Gideon orders every corpse burned and threatens a hesitant mage, prioritizing operational survival over burial. He waits for a Blood Golem to reach Argonaut Rank before using Clemence to seize it, but Lux unsummons the creature and Eiko’s faction steals the chalice. A sinkhole topples Gideon and his banner; his army routs, and he ends the war wounded, bound, and alive as Yelan’s hostage. (Chapters 442, 490, 493, 495–497, 507, 509–513)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not specify Gideon’s hair, eyes, age, or build. He is presented through a mounted general’s bearing, commanding from the center of the Ammarian formation and maintaining confidence while numbers favor him. He is patient enough to delay a powerful artifact’s use and observant enough to adjust barriers against corpse explosions, but also ruthless toward his soldiers and furious when control slips away. Even in captivity he invokes his king and the threat of future war, showing loyalty mixed with an inability to accept defeat gracefully. (Chapters 495–497, 507, 509–512)

Command abilities

Army command and countermeasures

Gideon directs a force of roughly two hundred thousand soldiers through aides, generals, mages, clerics, and flank formations. He responds to Corpse Explosion by ordering bodies burned and barriers erected, reinforces threatened flanks, and times advances to exploit Ammar’s manpower. These are command mechanics rather than personal destructive spells. Communications and formations take time, so the first corpse chain kills thousands before barriers rise, while Lux’s remote summons and underground trap bypass the conventional front Gideon is organized to control. (Chapters 493, 495–496, 507, 509–511)

Clemence-based monster control

While carrying the Ammarian national treasure Clemence, Gideon can fire a beam with a high chance of taking control of a monster at Argonaut Rank or below. The chalice has only limited uses, encouraging him to wait until Zagan’s Blood Golem grows more valuable before acting. The control briefly succeeds, but its target disappears when unsummoned, and losing his grip allows the artifact to be stolen. This power depends entirely on a scarce external tool and does not protect Gideon himself from the sinkhole, capture, or loss of command. (Chapters 509–512)
