General Carran
General Carran is the Yelan Kingdom's strongest general, a seasoned warrior and strategist who commands the Glouswell Forest defense. His hatred of necromancers initially makes him distrust Lux, but battlefield necessity and Lux's restraint produce a wary alliance that never erases Carran's loyalty to Yelan. (Chapters 457, 474, 509, 514)
Biography
Heaven’s Gate and the continental wars
Carran enters the continental war already stretched between obligations: he sends ten thousand soldiers to reinforce Fahad while knowing that doing so weakens his own forest front. When Lux arrives, Carran accepts the aid but forbids using Yelan soldiers as cannon fodder, because a past fight with a vagabond necromancer cost him trusted subordinates. Repeated clashes with Revon force him to revise that suspicion. Lux's intelligence lets Carran locate the enemy general, Carran mortally wounds Revon, and Lux's corpse tactics break armies without consuming Carran's men indiscriminately. Carran consequently assigns bodyguards to Lux and accepts that the hated discipline can serve Yelan under a commander with limits. (Chapters 457, 478, 487)
After the forest victory, Carran transfers part of his force to the decisive Great Plains battle. He supports a morally costly retreat plan, holds the front from a giant black bear, and personally blocks General Herodes while Lux's Blood Golem disrupts the Ammarian formation. His judgment remains national rather than personal: he advises Lux not to accept Nero's unfair duel because losing the necromancer would destroy Yelan's deterrence, then acknowledges the victory when the war ends. In parting, he tells Lux that his hatred of necromancers remains and that he will kill him if they next meet as enemies, turning their respect into a clear boundary rather than sentimental friendship. (Chapters 497, 509, 514)
Appearance and personality
The corpus gives few facial details, but Carran has rugged hands, carries a spear, and rides a giant black bear at the army's front. His calm expression under cavalry charge and refusal to trade boasts with enemy Rankers present him as a hardened professional. He is stubborn, blunt, and deeply prejudiced by loss, yet evidence can change his operational decisions: he never pretends to like necromancy, but he protects Lux once the Half-Elf proves essential and treats a dying enemy general with respect. (Chapters 478, 487, 495, 514)
Abilities and skills
Carran is identified as a D-Ranker and the strongest General of Yelan. He fights with a spear, can blow away Ranker opponents with powerful strikes, mortally wounds General Revon, and blocks General Herodes's polearm with ease before forcing him back. His signature large-scale technique draws iron from the blood of slain soldiers and reshapes it into countless Blood Spears that rain across the fleeing Ammarian army, making a corpse-strewn battlefield into ammunition without using necromancy. (Chapters 487–488, 495, 497, 509)
His effectiveness depends on both material and command conditions. The Blood Spears require slain bodies whose blood contains iron, while his strategic reach is limited by manpower and geography; reinforcing one front weakens another, and even he cannot kill every routed soldier or personally protect the entire formation. Carran therefore pairs combat strength with scouting, formations, bodyguards, mounted mobility, and disciplined retreats. No later source gives him a new rank or technique, so his endpoint remains the accomplished D-Ranker and general documented during the war. (Chapters 457, 478, 488, 495)
Relationships
General Revon is Carran's principal rival, an enemy he respects as a strategist and warrior even while trying to kill him. Carran's relationship with Lux is shaped by the memory of subordinates lost to another necromancer: distrust becomes battlefield cooperation, but never unconditional approval. Great General Watson, Great General Sherlock, and General Fahad are fellow Yelan commanders with whom he coordinates the kingdom's defense and final concentration of forces. (Chapters 457, 474, 487, 497, 514)
