Cedwyn

Cedwyn is the longtime head of Leaf Village and later mayor of Leaf Town. A former adventuring companion of Randolph and Annie, he guides the settlement through monster outbreaks, reconstruction, guild growth, and its transformation from a vulnerable frontier village into a prosperous town.

Biography

Awakening and Leaf Village

Cedwyn’s first responsibility is civilian survival. Facing a mosquito infestation with outside aid unavailable, he plans basement sheltering and closes Figaro Garden; when a multi-species Monster Outbreak later arrives, he physically drives inexperienced children toward safety, raises a barrier around them, and uses an uncontrolled teleport to save them from the Thunder Wolf King. The spell succeeds, but Cedwyn is grievously injured and forced to accept that Leaf Village cannot survive without Lux’s intervention. (Chapters 46, 160–162)

Recovery turns Cedwyn from crisis manager into a builder. He proposes an orphanage for children left by the attack, joins the reconstruction, places Lux’s Guardian Crystal inside commemorative statues, and publicly thanks the Half-Elf before his departure. He also awards the young adventurers village armor and preserves the founder’s legacy through ceremony and practical investment, laying the institutional foundation for Leaf Village’s later expansion. (Chapters 121, 169–172)

Open Heaven’s Gate

Cedwyn eventually becomes mayor of Leaf Town and fights in the final invasion, where grief overwhelms him as friends and fellow Dwarves die. Lux later resurrects Cedwyn and the elders in younger bodies so they can continue developing the settlement. By Randolph and Annie’s wedding, he has recovered enough of his old humor to tease the nervous groom and wrestle him over their century-long rivalry for Annie’s affection, ending the story alive, restored, and still embedded in the community he built. (Chapters 1210, 1229, 1234)

Appearance and personality

Cedwyn is an old, bearded Dwarf for most of the story; after the war, Lux gives him a younger body. He is blunt enough to kick reckless newcomers toward shelter, but his severity is rooted in responsibility rather than cruelty. Practical, civic-minded, and ambitious for Leaf Village, he thinks in terms of shelter capacity, trade, expedition funding, orphan care, and guild intelligence. Around Annie and Randolph, that public gravity gives way to loud teasing and the easy competitiveness of century-old friendship. (Chapters 46, 160–172, 417, 852, 1229, 1234)

Magic and leadership abilities

Barriers and emergency teleportation

Cedwyn can chant combat magic, cast a protective barrier around himself and nearby children, and perform teleportation. His emergency transport saves the children from a lethal lightning attack, but insufficient preparation leaves him unable to set coordinates, so he sends them to an unknown destination and suffers serious injuries soon afterward. These spells let him protect civilians briefly; they do not make him capable of defeating a near-Deimos Thunder Wolf King. (Chapters 160–162)

Settlement administration

Cedwyn’s most sustained capability is organization. He coordinates elders, shelter policy, treasury rewards, reconstruction, commerce, guild recruitment, intelligence ideas, and the village-to-town expansion. His plans rely on specialists such as Randolph, Annie, Lux, and outside sponsors, and he regularly acknowledges when Leaf Village lacks manpower or material resources. By the endpoint, this collaborative leadership has carried him from village chief to mayor rather than transforming him into a higher-ranked combatant. (Chapters 46, 121, 169–172, 358, 417, 713, 852, 953)

Relationships

  • Lux: Cedwyn rewards and honors Lux for saving Leaf Village, later joins his guild, and uses the opportunities Lux creates to turn the village into a town. Lux resurrects him after the final war. (Chapters 121, 162–172, 358, 852, 1229)
  • Randolph: A former adventuring companion and lifelong friend. They cooperate on village affairs and quarrel comically over Annie. (Chapters 121, 160, 169, 1234)
  • Grandma Annie: Cedwyn trusts Annie’s advice in crises and openly admits his century-long unrequited affection even as she prepares to marry Randolph. (Chapters 46, 160–172, 1229, 1234)
