Blackie
Blackie is Eiko's black Devil Slime summon and the shadow-aligned counterpart to Whitey. A small flying slime rather than a humanoid fighter, he grows through Eiko's naming and rank system and usually works as one half of a coordinated elemental pair.
Biography
Awakening and Leaf Village
Eiko summons a black Devil Slime and names him Blackie for his color. The act of naming increases his intelligence and power, and the system establishes that he will remain one rank above Eiko and advance automatically when she does. His first fights expose both sides of that design: a much stronger Crimson Mantis can destroy him instantly, but Eiko can summon him again, so the loss is not a permanent death (Chapters 122, 124–126).
Blackie quickly becomes a practical aerial combatant beside Whitey. His shadow attacks help burn or blast through treants, and the two slimes combine Holy and Shadow power into Starfire Tempest, a concentrated beam stronger than either component alone. They also execute coordinated ambushes, gather Beast Cores, support the village's defenders, and help protect Colette during attacks on the wall (Chapters 132, 138, 177, 189–214).
The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss
Much later, Eiko summons Blackie together with Whitey and Cloud against a Black-Crowned Vulture threatening Colette. Their purpose is collective rather than individual glory: several summons gang up on a stronger aerial enemy so that the rescue can succeed. Blackie's return confirms that he remains available as part of Eiko's summon roster long after the Leaf Village battles, with his defining pattern of paired support intact (Chapter 716).
Appearance and personality
Blackie is a black Devil Slime equipped with wings for flight. The narrative does not give him a human form or extensive spoken dialogue; his individuality is communicated through his name, responsive behavior, and partnership with Whitey. He is obedient, vigilant, and willing to intercept threats to Eiko's allies, while his increased intelligence after naming lets him participate in coordinated maneuvers rather than acting as an ordinary animal (Chapters 122, 138, 214).
Devil Slime abilities
Blackie uses Shadow Magic, including Shadow Ball, and can maneuver in the air on his wings. His signature team technique is Starfire Tempest: Blackie's shadow energy combines with Whitey's holy energy into a focused beam, demonstrating complementary elemental interaction rather than simple simultaneous attacks. His rank is mechanically tied to Eiko—always one rank higher and automatically rising when she advances—so his development depends on hers (Chapters 122, 132, 138).
He remains vulnerable to large rank differences. A Crimson Mantis erases him before he can meaningfully resist, and later victories rely on Whitey, Cloud, Eiko, or other defenders rather than solitary dominance. Resummoning mitigates bodily destruction, but the observed mechanics do not make him invulnerable during an individual deployment. His most reliable application is therefore mobile elemental support and coordinated protection (Chapters 125–126, 162, 214, 716).
Relationships
- Eiko: Eiko summons and names Blackie, determines his growth link, and repeatedly deploys him to protect her companions (Chapters 122, 214, 716).
- Whitey: Whitey is Blackie's holy-aligned counterpart. Their complementary magic produces Starfire Tempest, and most of Blackie's major assignments place them together (Chapters 122, 138, 716).
- Colette: Blackie assists in Colette's defense at Leaf Village and later joins the aerial rescue against the Black-Crowned Vulture (Chapters 214, 716).
