Bentley
Bentley is the green-clad Vice-Guild Master of the Game-Shin Impact Merchant Guild. He turns large construction commissions into adventures, using a waypoint-based portal ability and a guild of powerful specialists to build Heaven’s Gate’s headquarters, facilities, and town before fighting beside them in the final war.
Biography
Heaven’s Gate and the continental wars
Bentley arrives atop his guild’s four-winged Blue Dragon while playing a lyre, then shifts smoothly from theatrical introduction to a detailed negotiation with Lux. He prices the mountain demolition, accepts Draconium Ore, opens a wormhole for thousands of guild members, and assigns Glee and Kenneth according to their destructive and leveling specialties. Over ten days his people turn the peak into a castle headquarters with dedicated facilities and teleportation gates. Bentley also protects Lux’s secret Mythical Guild identity, advises against enslaving Dragons in their own kingdom, and leaves a contact artifact that turns the successful commission into a lasting commercial partnership. (Chapters 427–430, 537)
The rescue from the Abyss and the final war
By the final battle, Bentley’s relationship with Heaven’s Gate is no longer limited to paid construction. He and Glee stand together on Edea and hurl spells and Blast Bombs into the attacking Abyssal forces while the Merchant Guild’s four-winged Dragon supplies aerial breath attacks. The contractors who built and repaired the settlement therefore become defenders of the same headquarters when its existence is threatened. Bentley’s latest direct action is frontline support under overwhelming pressure, showing that his easygoing merchant persona does not prevent him from sharing the risk faced by his clients and friends. (Chapter 1210)
Appearance and personality
Bentley is a young man in a green robe, green feathered cap, and flowing green cape. Carrying a lyre and fond of cider, he resembles an eccentric wandering bard more than a construction executive. He is playful, sociable, commercially sharp, and fond of grand entrances, yet handles prices, designs, confidentiality, logistics, and safety with care. His relaxed manner masks extensive travel experience and sound political judgment about Dragons, dangerous territories, and immature guilds. (Chapters 427–430)
Abilities and skills
Bentley can save the coordinates of places he has visited as waypoints and open a wormhole-like portal to those locations. That mechanism moves thousands of workers across roughly eight thousand miles and makes the Merchant Guild’s rapid deployments possible, but it depends on Bentley having visited and recorded the destination first. He later fights by hurling unspecified spells, while the Blue Dragon’s flight and breath belong to the guild creature rather than to Bentley personally. The corpus never states Bentley’s formal rank or names his combat spells, so neither should be inferred from the Rankers working under him. His strongest documented expertise remains spatial logistics, project direction, and access to specialized personnel. (Chapters 428–429, 1210)
Relationships
- Lux — Bentley’s major client and later ally. Their paid headquarters contract develops into repeated town construction, relocation support, and shared defense of Edea. (Chapters 428–430, 751–752, 815, 1210)
- Glee — Bentley’s explosive specialist and subordinate. He supervises her demolition work, treats her affectionately, and later fights beside her. (Chapters 428, 430, 1210)
- Game-Shin Impact Merchant Guild — The large mobile organization Bentley directs through portals and specialized assignments; its power comes from coordinated members rather than Bentley performing every task himself. (Chapters 428–429)
- Eiko — Glee’s close friend and a beneficiary of Bentley’s construction work. Bentley and Lux jointly stop the two from beginning an unauthorized bombing excursion. (Chapter 430)
