Admiral Onyx

Admiral Onyx Dreadheart is a Supreme-ranked fleet commander from one of the Ford Federation’s Three Great Families. He leads an extermination campaign against the Pirate Enclave with overwhelming numerical confidence, only for Eiko’s fleet and Avery to reverse the promised annihilation.

Biography

The Divine Army reckoning

Onyx commands the Federation’s encirclement of the Pirate Enclave, intending to destroy the island even if its inhabitants escape because breaking the pirates’ symbol would consolidate the Great Families’ control. His fleet outnumbers the pirate coalition twenty to one, and he expects to display captured captains’ heads as a warning. When Eiko’s Bone Ship begins sinking battleships through their barriers, Onyx changes priorities, abandons the Ten Prestigious Families to the main pirate force, and rallies the Three Great Families against the new threat. The adaptation is tactically rational but founded on the same mistaken assumption that a Supreme and superior numbers can overpower an unknown vessel. (Chapters 1006–1008)

Avery’s appearance exposes the real disparity. Onyx cannot sense the Skeleton Pirate King’s rank, nevertheless attacks with a flame-imbued spear, and is knocked through his flagship by one slap. After regaining consciousness, he tries to escape underwater so he can warn the Federation’s other two Supremes and return with them, showing that he finally accepts cooperation is necessary. Avery catches and beats him nearly to death. Onyx makes one last attempt to kill Eiko after identifying her as leader, but Avery interrupts him and Blackfire pulls the dying Supreme inside. His defeat destroys fleet morale and helps establish Eiko as the pirates’ accepted princess; the corpus does not show Onyx returning as an independent living person afterward. (Chapters 1008–1010)

Appearance and personality

Onyx is a human admiral who smokes a pipe, but the corpus does not establish his hair, eyes, age, height, or uniform. He is experienced in fleet positioning yet arrogant, punitive, and convinced the Great Families’ power entitles them to eradicate opposition. He can revise a battlefield order under pressure and attempts to carry warning intelligence home, but pride drives him to challenge an opponent he already knows is vastly stronger. Even while dying, he remains defiant enough to target Eiko. (Chapters 1006–1009)

Supreme and naval abilities

Fleet command

Onyx coordinates an encirclement, commands fleets belonging to multiple political families, sets engagement distance, and redirects formations against priority targets. His authority can concentrate enormous naval power, but it is politically segmented: he assigns the Prestigious Families to fight alone while rallying the Great Families around himself. Conventional cannons, Ranker attacks, barriers, and numbers cannot damage Poseidon or stop its Demigod-core bombardment, so command skill cannot overcome an extreme equipment and rank mismatch. Supreme combat and artifacts

Onyx can fly, fight underwater, imbue a spear with blazing flames, and charge with a Supreme’s full power. He also activates artifacts that shield his flagship and nearby battleships. These defenses can cover a formation but fail against Poseidon’s cannons and Avery’s physical force; Avery casually dodges the spear and splits the flagship by knocking Onyx into it. Onyx cannot accurately gauge opponents far stronger than himself, and after severe injury his attempt to focus an attack on Eiko is stopped by a single blow. (Chapters 1008–1009)

Relationships
