Hua Yan

Hua Yan, known as Sword Immortal Hua Yan, is the emissary sent by Emperor Yu to recover the treasures of Ni Yang's Realm. A level-one Golden Immortal armed far beyond the means of most Mortal Realm cultivators, he uses imperial wealth, intimidation, and temporary coalitions to dominate the expedition. His campaign ends after he takes Qin Yu's relatives hostage and mistakes the Sword Immortal Lan Feng for an independent enemy.

Biography

Emperor Yu's emissary

Hua Yan descends after Ming Liang loses a Heaven-Sundering Diagram. He accepts that Ming Liang could not defeat Fang Tian, Zong Jue, and Lan Feng, but immediately rebuilds the loose immortals' strength by distributing high- and top-grade immortal swords and promising top-grade armor for the diagram's recovery. He then tries to establish the authority of Emperor Yu's faction, deciding against the dangerous Zong Jue and using a 100-Thunder Paralyzing Talisman to gravely wound Fang Tian instead. The appearance of Lan Feng checks Hua Yan's attempt to rule by superior equipment. Unable to assess the supposed sword immortal's depth, Hua Yan accepts an auction for the missing diagram and competes through wealth and alliances. He is proud of being selected by Emperor Yu and repeatedly tests the other emissaries, but he can postpone open conflict when it would endanger the Ni Yang expedition. Even after Qin Yu frames rival factions for assassinations, Hua Yan and Du Zhong Jun settle their suspicions provisionally because entry into the realm matters more than immediate revenge. Ni Yang's Realm and the hostage plot

Hua Yan leads five loose immortals into Ni Yang's Realm under strict orders that they take no treasure without his permission. The trials strip away that authority: companions die, Lan Feng repeatedly displays superior strength, and the Nine Heavens test imposes a special penalty on Immortal Realm emissaries. Hua Yan prudently chooses the first room, survives three simultaneous level-one sword-spirit waves despite being injured by the examiner's shout, but finishes with the lowest score and is transported out before the greatest treasures are distributed. Outside the realm, Hua Yan joins Ao Feng, Du Zhong Jun, and Yu Liang in kidnapping members of Qin Yu's family. They exchange the hostages for Qin Yu, carry him away under an energy restraint, and build a formation on the uninhabited Yellowstone to trap Lan Feng and seize his divine artifacts. Hua Yan helps maintain the deception and confinement even after the hostages are safe, making himself personally responsible for the plot rather than merely following an imperial order. (Chapters 301–306)

The trap reverses when Qin Yu reveals that he commands both Lan Feng and the beasts of the Ten Thousand Beasts Atlas. Hua Yan, Ao Feng, and Du Zhong Jun are caught off guard within their own formation; a level-nine Golden Immortal strike bisects all three before they can evade and destroys their souls. Hua Yan's equipment and level-one cultivation had made him dominant in much of the Mortal Realm, but neither can bridge the eight-level gap to the Sword Immortal Puppet at full power. (Chapter 307)

Appearance and personality

The corpus emphasizes Hua Yan's bearing and resources more than a fixed physical portrait. He presents himself with calm smiles, cold looks, and the assured posture of the sole Immortal Realm emissary, using rewards and formal rank to make local loose immortals defer to him. He is proud, calculating, and willing to use sophistry, intimidation, or hostages, yet not mindlessly reckless: he studies opponents' hidden advantages, changes targets when victory is uncertain, and repeatedly preserves alliances needed for Ni Yang's Realm. Abilities and cultivation

Sword-immortal cultivation and movement

Hua Yan is a level-one Golden Immortal sword immortal, the maximum strength Emperor Yu's temporary cross-realm channel can deliver. His personal offense is therefore dangerous to Mortal Realm experts, and his Immortal Awareness ranges widely enough to make ordinary escape difficult. He can teleport, vaguely sense Man Qian's concealed awareness, and combine energy with Ao Feng and Du Zhong Jun to perform Mass Teleportation. That last feat establishes a limit as well as an ability: three level-one Golden Immortals are needed to cross the short interplanetary distance to Yellowstone. (Chapters 262–263, 279, 305–306)

Imperial equipment and talismans

Emperor Yu equips Hua Yan with a top-grade immortal sword, powerful immortal armor, elixirs, protective seals, and multiple 100-Thunder Paralyzing Talismans. One activated talisman tracks Fang Tian with a hundred thunderbolts and gravely wounds him through his transformed defense. Hua Yan cannot release the talisman's full potential, however; at level one he can threaten ordinary level-three or level-four Golden Immortals, while Fang Tian's Heritage Pearl prevents a killing blow. Much of Hua Yan's early dominance consequently comes from his patron's equipment rather than an unlimited advantage in cultivation. (Chapters 262–264)

Demonstrated limits

Ni Yang's tests expose the boundary of Hua Yan's defenses. Already wounded by the examiner's voice, he barely survives three simultaneous sword-spirit waves equal to level-one Golden Immortals and completes only the lowest room. He also openly judges Lan Feng stronger than himself. That caution is correct: when the puppet attacks at level-nine Golden Immortal power on Yellowstone, Hua Yan has no opportunity to evade, his body is cut apart, and his soul is destroyed with one sword-energy wave. Relationships

• Emperor Yu: Hua Yan is his chosen emissary and acts to secure Ni Yang's inheritance for him. Imperial backing supplies the weapons and talismans that make Hua Yan unusually dangerous in the Mortal Realm.
• Ming Liang: Hua Yan rewards Ming Liang's service, entrusts him with a top-grade sword, and selects him for the expedition. Ming Liang's murder then pushes Hua Yan toward a tense investigation of Du Zhong Jun.
• Fang Tian and Zong Jue: Mortal Realm powers whom Hua Yan tries to subordinate. He wounds Fang Tian with a talisman but avoids directly testing Zong Jue's concealed trump card.
• Du Zhong Jun and Ao Feng: Rival emissaries who become necessary partners in the Ni Yang expedition and the Yellowstone trap. Their alliance is practical and distrustful, and all three die together.
• Qin Yu: Hua Yan initially sees Qin Yu as Lan Feng's lesser martial nephew, then helps seize his family and imprison him. Failing to understand Qin Yu's control of Lan Feng causes Hua Yan's death.
