Biography

Cult leadership and surrender

Ethan Carter becomes the Cult of the Unblinking Eye's public advocate while Louis acts as its military strongman. At the Demigod conclave he argues against dismantling the Planetary Defense Array, frames human dominance as natural, and helps turn disagreement into a siege of the Hearthwood. When Theodore Waltz reveals that the Cult's leaders are clones, however, Ethan's confidence breaks; he surrenders in Chapter 410 and then helps interpret The Challenger and persuade its remaining human crew to stand down. The later record distinguishes this cooperative prisoner from another dull, controlled Ethan body used in Chapter 452. By Chapter 464, the captive copy remains alive while Theo reconstructs the timeline that produced the Cult. (Chapters 384–411, 443, 452, 464)

Appearance and personality

Ethan is tall, well dressed, and presented with piercing eyes, a confident smile, and a polished, preppy style carried over from Earth. He is persuasive and socially agile where Cult Founder Louis is openly threatening. That polish conceals an ideology of human supremacy: Ethan treats elves as subordinate resources and accepts mind control as a political tool. His surrender shows pragmatism and an ability to revise his position when the foundation of his identity is disproved. (Chapters 384, 388–411)

Abilities and cultivation

Ethan is an Early Demigod mind cultivator. He projects persuasive suggestions and illusions, supports large-scale control of Cult forces, and carries devices that warn him of danger or blunt ranged attacks. His exact concept is not named. His defenses are not absolute: Theo can expose contradictions in his assumed history, allied Demigods can surround him, and the loss of certainty about being the original Ethan is enough to induce surrender rather than continued resistance. Relationships

• Cult Founder Louis: Ethan is the Cult's politician to Louis's general. They share the same organization and strategic goals, but Ethan is more willing to bargain and ultimately surrenders when Louis continues fighting. (Chapters 388–410)
• Theodore Waltz: Ethan initially treats Theo as a dangerous rival to be contained. After learning he is a clone, he cooperates with Theo's effort to decode the Challenger and remains his prisoner during the reconstructed centuries. (Chapters 388–411, 443, 464)
• Dean and Sam: Ethan knew them before the late Cult war and invokes that shared human background, but he ultimately fights their coalition. (Chapters 388–410)
