Yoonsuk Bae

Yoonsuk Bae is the mustachioed foreman of the Hunters Guild’s excavation team. He hires Jinwoo Sung as a temporary miner shortly before Jinwoo’s S-rank reevaluation and mistakes the hunter’s overwhelming physical statistics for natural mining talent. His appearances give a ground-level view of high-rank guild logistics: he manages labor inside cleared dungeons, enforces safety boundaries, and tries to protect an apparent E rank from an A-rank strike squad’s work.

Biography

Hiring an E-rank temporary worker

Jinwoo reports to the Hunters Guild while looking for a practical way to observe a major guild raid before his reevaluation. Yoonsuk checks his hunter license rather than relying on appearance, notes that his toned body and steady eyes are unusual for E rank, and welcomes him to the excavation crew. He provides a hard hat, uniform, and pickaxe, then introduces him to roughly twenty miners and assigns veteran Jinsu Mok as the person to answer technical questions (Chapter 22).

Yoonsuk’s team works only after the strike squad kills the ordinary monsters and before it defeats the boss, because closing the dungeon would make the remaining mana crystals inaccessible. This creates pressure to coordinate with the collection team and finish before the gate closes. Yoonsuk argues to retain the temporary worker when the collection foreman complains of understaffing, reasoning that incomplete excavation is itself a serious loss (Chapter 22).

He waits until the raid squad has safely exited before sending the workers inside. Within the A-rank dungeon, Yoonsuk explains the operating sequence and acknowledges that if the boss unexpectedly leaves its lair, none of the miners are equipped to survive. He is nevertheless confident because three years with the Hunters Guild have passed without such an incident. His assurance is based on institutional experience, not an ability to sense the boss’s power as Jinwoo does (Chapters 22–23).

The “born miner”

Jinwoo studies Jinsu’s posture and then extracts crystals at roughly three times the other workers’ speed. When the entire crew stops to stare, Yoonsuk orders them back to work before seeing the result himself. He concludes with complete sincerity that Jinwoo was born to be a miner. He has correctly recognized exceptional productivity but misattributes the cause because Jinwoo’s license and undetectable mana conceal S-rank physical ability (Chapter 23).

Jinwoo’s work lets the team finish about two hours early. Yoonsuk pays his wages, invites him to the team dinner, and then makes a direct employment offer. A first-day worker has performed three or four times an experienced miner’s output, so Yoonsuk is prepared to persuade management to add benefits. Jinwoo declines permanent work but agrees to return for the following day’s second raid (Chapter 23).

Yoonsuk does not hide the increased risk to secure that agreement. He proudly explains that the Hunters Guild can attack two A-rank gates with separate teams, but admits that the next operation lacks the two S ranks present on the first day and could fail completely if anything goes wrong. Jinwoo accepts precisely because it will be more dangerous. Yoonsuk promises double the daily rate—still a bargain for someone who works as fast as four or five miners—and looks on him with almost paternal fondness, imagining that a son his age might resemble this reliable young worker (Chapter 23).

Attempting to keep Jinwoo safe

The second strike squad’s luggage carrier fails to appear, and leader Kihoon Son asks to borrow someone from excavation. Jinwoo volunteers for the hazard pay and access to the raid. Yoonsuk immediately tries to stop the arrangement. He tells Kihoon that the young man started only yesterday and raised his hand out of ignorance, then quietly reveals that he is E rank and far too weak for an A-rank dungeon. His reaction shows that retaining an excellent worker matters less than keeping him alive (Chapters 23–24).

Kihoon accepts Jinwoo anyway, believing the rear-position luggage carrier will be safe unless the entire formation fails. That premise proves false when the high orcs herd the squad into Kargalgan’s lair. Outside, Yoonsuk and the labor teams wait past the expected return. Haein Cha senses trouble and enters, while association official Jinchul Woo arrives to investigate. Yoonsuk supplies the critical account: Jinwoo went in as the replacement carrier and Haein followed afterward (Chapters 24–26).

Jinwoo ultimately saves the strike squad and defeats the boss. From his own perspective, he remains grateful that Yoonsuk offered him a second day, because the unexpected battle provides valuable experience and a powerful shadow soldier. Yoonsuk never learns the full scale of the “miner” he tried to hire (Chapter 26).

Appearance and personality

Yoonsuk is well over forty, energetic, and distinguished by a mustache that suits him. At work he wears the same hard hat and practical uniform as his crew. His mustache visibly wiggles when he becomes excited, and he wears his feelings openly—boisterous delight at Jinwoo’s productivity, devastation at losing a recruit, and alarm when the young man enters danger.

He is sociable, kind, and proud of competent work. He repeatedly answers a new employee’s questions without irritation, invites him to eat with the team, and wants to reward output beyond a standard day rate. His confidence in Hunters Guild procedure can look naive beside Jinwoo’s supernatural perception, but Yoonsuk never lies about a risk he understands. When the second raid is less protected, he says so even though honesty may cost him an exceptional worker.

Abilities, skills, and rank

Excavation expertise

Yoonsuk understands the timing and economics of crystal extraction, evaluates worker productivity, keeps inventory, and coordinates a crew of approximately twenty. He can distinguish a veteran pace from an extraordinary one and recognizes that Jinwoo’s first-day output justifies special compensation (Chapters 22–23).

Worksite supervision and safety

He verifies licenses, issues protective gear, assigns mentors, counts personnel, waits for combat clearance, and warns workers not to wander. When Jinwoo claims to have become lost, Yoonsuk stresses how easily identical dungeon passages can disorient a miner. He also explains Haein’s presence and the boss-related hazard without encouraging the crew to treat an active dungeon casually (Chapters 22–23).

Limits

The corpus does not state Yoonsuk’s hunter rank, class, mana level, or combat skill. Like the rest of the excavation team, he is not equipped to fight an A-rank boss. His three incident-free years lead him to underestimate an exceptional dungeon, and Jinwoo’s concealed power lies far outside what his license-based assessment can detect (Chapters 23–24).
