Kichul Hyun

Kichul Hyun is an assistant manager in the White Tiger Guild’s second administration team, the department responsible for recruitment and training. He helps Sangmin An uncover Jinwoo Sung’s suspicious raid record, supports the effort to recruit him, and directly administers the trainee exercise that becomes a Red Gate. Although he is not presented as a combat hunter, his memory, organization, and sincere concern for recruits make him an important operational employee.

Biography

The impossible gate reservations

Kichul enters the story under pressure to reserve a C-rank gate for White Tiger’s new-member training. Every suitable permit is being bought first by a private strike squad, and when Kichul raises the bid from the usual seventy million won to one hundred million, the competitor pays 250 million—more than the gate’s expected maximum profit. Sangmin initially berates him for failing at a basic assignment, but the laptop records prove that Kichul is facing behavior no rational profit-seeking squad would imitate (Chapter 10).

Their investigation turns from scheduling to hunter intelligence. Kichul recognizes the name Jinwoo Sung without searching and recalls that he was the lone hunter found in the double dungeon. Sangmin regards Kichul’s memory as superb even if his general intelligence is not portrayed as extraordinary. Kichul then helps gather the pattern around Jinwoo and Jinho Yoo: only the two survived their first raid, Jinwoo survived several lethal incidents despite being E rank, and their new squad is clearing two or three dungeons each day (Chapter 10).

Sangmin concludes that Jinwoo has reawakened and personally goes to recruit him, taking Kichul as his right-hand man. This is unusual because Sangmin has not handled a recruit personally in two years. He is especially demanding with Kichul because he considers him the only current subordinate capable of eventually succeeding him as department manager (Chapter 10).

Recruitment contact with Jinwoo

Kichul’s manner complements his manager’s intensity. He deals with the raid-permit logistics and meets Jinwoo more than once, but Jinwoo remembers him as genuinely pleasant rather than as someone always performing a sales pitch. That distinction matters when Jinwoo asks White Tiger to let him observe a training raid with the student Songyi. Sangmin approves both to help Jinwoo discourage her from becoming a hunter and to keep a valuable prospect close; Kichul handles the visit on site (Chapters 10, 14–15).

At the gate, Kichul warmly greets Jinwoo and Songyi, explains that the twelve trainees consist of one A rank, seven B ranks, and four C ranks, and clarifies that even high-ranked newcomers need dungeon experience. He also quietly asks Jinwoo only to observe so that his hidden power does not end a C-rank exercise immediately. When Jinwoo enters, Kichul waves and cheers him on rather than treating him merely as a commercial target (Chapter 15).

Red Gate crisis

Kichul and Jinwoo notice the gate’s abnormal surface almost together. Jinwoo orders him to summon the main strike squad just before the gate pulls Jinwoo inside. Kichul rushes forward, confirms the surface is becoming red, ignores the panicking trainee office staff, and immediately calls Sangmin. His report brings guild master Yoonho Baek and other senior personnel to the site (Chapter 15).

As the employee responsible for the exercise, Kichul has to answer Yoonho’s hard questions even though association measurements had classified the gate as C rank. He suggests measuring it with White Tiger’s own mana meter, only to learn that a Red Gate is too tightly sealed for recalibration. He also reports that an additional observer entered with the recruits; Sangmin identifies that person as Jinwoo, offering the only uncertain hope that someone beyond the official trainee roster can change the outcome (Chapter 16).

Kichul remains outside for the entire crisis. Because time passes differently inside a Red Gate, the wait offers no reliable picture of the trapped group’s condition. He listens closely as Yoonho explains the lethal environments behind such gates and reacts with horror when told that C-rank and lower hunters are probably already dead. He nevertheless stays at the site, checking his watch and proposing that Yoonho leave to rest only after the vigil has dragged on (Chapters 16–17).

When the gate finally opens, Kichul sees only five people emerge. He asks if they are the only survivors and is visibly devastated when Jinwoo confirms it. He brings warm tea to Heejin Park, then leaves for the Hunter’s Association to handle official follow-up for the deaths and failed exercise. His administrative responsibility continues after the dramatic rescue has ended (Chapter 17).

Appearance and personality

The supplied chapters give Kichul no fixed facial or physical profile. His reactions provide the clearer picture: he bows when reprimanded, fights back tears over the failed permit assignment, turns ashen at the Red Gate, wipes away cold sweat with a handkerchief, and openly grieves when most trainees do not return.

Kichul is conscientious, approachable, and emotionally transparent. Sangmin calls him smart, obedient, and sometimes clumsy, but also considers him an excellent employee with no prior major mistakes. His warmth toward Jinwoo is sufficiently unforced that Jinwoo responds in kind. At the same time, kindness does not make him passive in a crisis: he recognizes the abnormal gate, calls command, proposes measurements, tends to survivors, and faces the association afterward.

Abilities, skills, and rank

Administrative memory

Kichul’s clearest talent is recall. When asked about a two-month-old double-dungeon support incident, he immediately supplies Jinwoo’s name and E-rank classification without consulting a database. That memory gives Sangmin the link needed to form his reawakening theory (Chapter 10).

Recruitment and training operations

As assistant manager, Kichul works with permit bids, hunter records, trainee rosters, staff instruction, and on-site raid coordination. He can explain party composition and the guild’s training rationale, organize novice office personnel, and escalate an emergency through the correct chain. After the Red Gate, he manages institutional follow-up rather than leaving that burden entirely to survivors (Chapters 10, 15–17).

Limits

The corpus does not identify Kichul as an awakened hunter, assign him a hunter rank, or show him fighting. He cannot enter or reopen the sealed Red Gate and must depend on association science and guild combat personnel. His contribution is logistical and human, not a concealed combat power.
