Wang Hongyuan — Skyfire Avenue

Wang Hongyuan is a National Eastern University dance instructor who conceals a darkness-and-vampirism Discipline and elite mecha ability behind an abrasive civilian persona. The Taihua disaster exposes both his power and his conscience: he follows Lan Jue into danger, deploys the Emperor-class Idoloclast, and helps protect an evacuation rather than returning to safety. He later becomes Lan Jue's assistant in the A.R.C. training program and, with Tan Lingyun, keeps its students training while Lan Jue is absent. (Chapters 40, 130–140, 165, 225–269, and 510–513)

Biography

A difficult colleague with a private generosity

Wang first treats the new etiquette professor with sarcasm and open rivalry. He teaches dance, cares intensely about his appearance, and resents the attention Lan Jue receives from Jin Yan. His manner gives the impression of vanity and spite, but Jin Yan supplies evidence of a different private life: Wang spends roughly half his salary helping poor students. The contrast is important. His charity does not erase his jealousy, and his jealousy does not make his public unpleasantness a complete account of his character. (Chapters 40 and 130)

The same mixture shapes his interest in Jin Yan. He competes with Lan Jue for her attention and later reports that a meal after Taihua has brought them closer. No later scene confirms an engagement or settled partnership. His romantic confidence is therefore an aspiration rather than a resolved status. (Chapters 137 and 165)

Taihua and Idoloclast

When alien creatures overrun Taihua, Tan Lingyun sends Wang after Lan Jue. Wang initially tries to drag his colleague back, but he had entered the forest to protect him in the first place. Lan Jue's refusal to abandon civilians changes the choice before Wang: instead of returning alone, he reveals his own hidden power and joins the rescue. Their mutual suspicion becomes battlefield trust because both act despite the danger. (Chapters 136–138)

Wang summons Idoloclast, a slender blood-red Emperor-class mecha with batlike wings and dark halos. Lan Jue infers from the machine that Wang may be an Emperor-ranked pilot, while later narration calls him Sovereign-ranked. The safest distinction is that Idoloclast is Emperor class and Wang is explicitly described as a Sovereign-ranked pilot; characters' startled dialogue should not be used to upgrade that stated rating. He and Lan Jue kill large numbers of creatures, protect the encampment, and preserve an evacuation route. Wang then pilots the escaping airship while Lan Jue remains behind. Back at the university, Wang and Lan Jue agree to keep each other's identities private. Authorities permit Wang to continue teaching dance if he obeys university rules and conceals his Discipline. The secret becomes less sustainable as his public actions circulate, but the agreement marks a genuine friendship: their insults remain, while Taihua gives them reason to trust one another's courage. Assistant drillmaster in A.R.C.

Wang joins Lan Jue's special mecha course after learning how strong the etiquette professor actually is. He is a seventh-rank Adept and experienced pilot, yet accepts the subordinate role because the program offers a route to improve. During an early battle exercise he and Lan Jue face a much larger student force; Wang handles ranged pressure and helps prevent the class from surrounding its primary instructor. His assistance is meaningful, but he is not the program's architect and does not equal Lan Jue's ninth-level strength. (Chapters 225 and 229–240)

He undergoes the same exhausting regimen imposed on the students. The training pushes him toward eighth rank, but the text describes him as needing further accumulation rather than clearly narrating the breakthrough. His progress should therefore be stated as refinement beyond his original seventh rank, not a confirmed later rank. He becomes one of the instructors who understands the class from inside its suffering rather than supervising from safety. (Chapters 239–269)

When Lan Jue leaves, Wang and Tan Lingyun take charge of the independent A.R.C. program. By Chapter 511, Wang is directing forty-nine trainees through controlled Discipline-integration fights, with high-ranked observers assigned to prevent serious injury. Lan Jue's surprise inspection shows that Wang's abilities and the students' formation work have improved. Wang then asks to accompany the class to Skyfire Avenue and accepts the no-retreat commitment involved in joining the future Star Division. This is his last direct appearance; the corpus does not individually narrate his later deployment, death, or epilogue. (Chapters 511–513)

Appearance and personality

Wang is a lean, relatively handsome man with pale skin, oily or waxy hair, and a carefully cultivated, foppish appearance. On Taihua he wears a black tracksuit that emphasizes his thin legs and fit build. The contrast between his bloodless civilian appearance and the red, winged Idoloclast suits a character whose ordinary presentation conceals a dark combat identity. (Chapters 40 and 130–137)

He is sarcastic, jealous, vain, and quick to challenge Lan Jue, but also charitable and unwilling to leave people in danger. Taihua does not replace one personality with another; it makes his better qualities impossible to dismiss. As a drillmaster he converts pride into responsibility, remaining with the A.R.C. students and maintaining their work after their principal instructor leaves. (Chapters 40, 130–165, and 225–513)

Disciplines and abilities

Darkness and vampirism

Tan Lingyun identifies Wang's Discipline as vampirism and darkness at approximately seventh rank. It enhances his speed and gives his combat presence a blood-red, shadowed character suited to Idoloclast. Later training explicitly describes the Discipline as dark-natured and especially vulnerable to lightning and disruption of the body's bioelectricity. His inability to recover from Lan Jue's Forest of Lightning as quickly as some physically tougher trainees demonstrates that a stronger Discipline does not guarantee a favorable elemental matchup. Mecha piloting and Idoloclast

Wang is an elite pilot whose Idoloclast is an eighteen-meter Emperor-class mecha built to match his speed-oriented abilities. It uses flight, dark energy, and paired blades to cut through Taihua's creatures. Later narration calls Wang Sovereign-ranked, while early characters speculate that anyone using such a machine must be Emperor-ranked. The corpus does not conclusively promote him to that higher pilot rank. Idoloclast also has endurance limits: after hours of battle Wang is breathing hard and follows Lan Jue's order to fall back and protect the evacuation. (Chapters 137–140 and 229)

Instruction and formation control

As an A.R.C. assistant, Wang can supervise live Discipline combat, coordinate trainees into mutual-support formations, and judge when high-ranked intervention is needed for safety. His authority comes from direct combat and piloting experience, but the program's strategic direction remains Lan Jue's and its continuing leadership is shared with Tan Lingyun. Relationships

Lan Jue: Wang begins as a jealous colleague and becomes a friend, fellow rescuer, and assistant instructor. Taihua creates mutual respect, while A.R.C. places Wang under Lan Jue's demanding training and strategic direction.
Tan Lingyun: A fellow university Adept and co-instructor. They preserve the A.R.C. program during Lan Jue's absence and supervise students' Discipline integration together.
Jin Yan: Wang is romantically interested in Jin Yan and resents Lan Jue's easy rapport with her. A post-Taihua meal encourages him, but the corpus does not confirm a lasting relationship.
Wu Junyi: The teaching director permits Wang to remain a dance instructor under rules governing his concealed Adept identity and later supports the A.R.C. program in which Wang teaches.
