Weaver's Mask

Weaver's Mask is a black wooden Memory attributed to Weaver, the Demon of Fate. It conceals its wearer's identity, reverses the effect of their Flaw, and can expose the otherwise unendurable tapestry of fate, making it both one of Sunny's most useful disguises and one of his most dangerous relics. History

The prisoner beneath the cathedral

Sunny discovered the mask on a chained corpse in a sealed cell beneath the Dark City's ruined cathedral. The dead prisoner had scratched a prayer to Weaver into the floor, but neither the corpse nor the lacquered mask registered to Sunny's supernatural intuition. When he touched the corpse it collapsed into dust, leaving the mask behind; touching it in turn converted it into a Memory within his soul. Its origin before the prisoner's death remains unknown, and Sunny explicitly rejected the idea that the corpse was Weaver. (Chapters 277–279)

Examining the Memory revealed seven radiant anchors and a spellweave of overwhelming complexity. The Nightmare Spell identified it as a Divine tool of the seventh tier with three enchantments, one of which it initially refused to name or describe. Sunny soon tested the other two. The mask obscured his physical identity and defeated supernatural scrutiny, while reversing his truth-bound Flaw so that he could lie freely but suffered terrible pain if he spoke the truth. He therefore recognized that constant use would protect his secret at the cost of making ordinary trust and cooperation almost impossible. (Chapters 278–280)

Mongrel and the hidden Saint

Sunny made the mask central to his public persona as Mongrel, pairing its supernatural concealment with deliberate changes in manner and combat style. The enchantment could hide identifying information and defeat abilities such as Cassie's sight, but it could not erase mundane clues in posture, speech, or behavior; maintaining the identity still required performance. Much later, as the Lord of Shadows, he again wore it while meeting Valor's leaders, allowing him to enter political and military councils without exposing the man behind the title. The mask remained in Sunny's possession through Antarctica and the Great River. Its unknown enchantment was eventually identified as Where is my eye?, an active power that reveals the vast weave of fate. As an Awakened, Sunny could sustain it only for a heartbeat, but that glimpse nearly destroyed him. In Antarctica he weaponized the same burden against the Terror of LO49, stunning the creature after forcing it to witness the tapestry and creating an opportunity to finish it. After becoming disconnected from fate, he also used the mask to confirm that his own strings were absent. (Chapters 456, 1019–1020, 1580, and 1951)

Looking into fate again

As a Supreme Titan, strengthened by Mind Weave and prior experience, Sunny activated Where is my eye? while racing across the Stormsea. He narrowed his attention to the local strands instead of trying to comprehend the entire tapestry, but the act was still hazardous: an earlier use had burned his eyes and left him blind until shortly before this attempt. The more disciplined glimpse helped him search the converging paths around his destination, showing that greater rank and practice reduced neither the enchantment's scale nor the fundamental danger of witnessing knowledge mortals were not built to hold. Mantle of Lies

Mantle of Lies hides the wearer's identity from supernatural detection. It blocked Sunny's intuition before he acquired the Memory and was expected to defeat powers that inspect Attributes or otherwise reveal a target. The disguise also makes ordinary features such as apparent height difficult to fix with certainty. It is not a complete mundane impersonation: observers can still infer identity from context, gait, habits, and speech, so Sunny supplements it with acting and Shadow Dance when presenting himself as someone else. Simple Trick

Simple Trick reverses the effect of the wearer's Flaw rather than removing it. Sunny's Flaw ordinarily prevents him from lying; with the mask on, he can lie without pain but cannot speak a true statement without suffering the same compulsion. The reversal offers a narrow way around questions that would otherwise expose him, yet its indiscriminate operation also makes sincere conversation dangerous and sustained social use impractical. Where is my eye?

Where is my eye? reveals the great tapestry of fate to the wearer. Its essence demand was initially far beyond Sunny's capacity, causing the enchantment to lapse almost immediately, but this limit also saved him from prolonged exposure. The perception can be directed more carefully with experience, and it can show local connections or whether a person remains bound into fate. Its information is never safe: early activation nearly killed Sunny, later use damaged and blinded him, and even at Supreme rank he treated another glimpse as a potentially crippling risk. Because another mind can be caught in the revelation, Sunny used the enchantment offensively against the Terror of LO49. The creature survived seeing the tapestry but was incapacitated long enough to be killed, demonstrating a devastating application whose effect depends on exposing the target rather than striking it physically. This does not make the mask a safe weapon: its wearer must endure the same incomprehensible sight and may be harmed before the enemy is overcome. (Chapters 1019–1020)
