Extraordinary Rock
The Extraordinary Rock is an unassuming stone Memory modified by Sunny to transmit his thoughts as speech and magnify sound. Its comic appearance belies its practical importance: it gives a truth-bound man a deliberate inner voice, serves as a battlefield loudspeaker, and marks an early success in Sunny's development as a sorcerer. History
From ordinary to extraordinary
During the Second Nightmare, Sunny wanted a controlled replacement for Noctis's emerald amulet, which voiced his thoughts continuously and deprived him of mental privacy. He first learned to turn mundane objects into Memories, then converted the amulet so that the Nightmare Spell would translate its runic magic into a weave he could study. The result was unstable and destroyed the amulet, but Sunny copied its communication enchantment before it collapsed. He placed that weave and an additional anchor on the Ordinary Rock, elevated the stone to the second tier, and also copied the Sonorous enchantment he had previously learned. The renamed Extraordinary Rock could now speak only when he activated it and could amplify what it produced. (Chapters 695–696)
The improvement did not bypass Sunny's Flaw. The rock could express thoughts without his lips moving, but whatever it voiced on his behalf still had to be true. That limitation became clear while he negotiated with Noctis: using telepathy changed the medium of his statement, not the supernatural constraint governing it. The Memory nevertheless let him choose which thoughts became public, ending the emerald amulet's indiscriminate broadcast and giving him a discreet way to communicate while concealing his face or remaining physically silent. (Chapters 695–697)
A voice for monsters and commanders
Sunny repeatedly used Sonorous to turn the small stone into a tool of command and deception. He projected orders through smoke and battle noise in a government facility, identified himself across an Antarctic highway, and made the enormous Shadowspawn roar before an army. The manufactured voice could steady allies, intimidate enemies, or support an assumed form whose visible mouth could not reproduce Sunny's speech. It did not compel obedience or create an attack by itself; its effects came from volume, surprise, and the authority or fear carried by the chosen sound. (Chapters 723, 764, 905, and 1112–1113)
The same qualities made the rock useful for misdirection. Sunny planted it in a severed head to create a talking distraction during a covert operation and later embedded it inside his Shadow Colossus so that his disguised laughter would roll across a Transcendent battlefield. These uses show the two enchantments working together: controlled thought transmission supplies a voice without exposing Sunny's position or mouth movements, while Sonorous gives that voice the scale needed for the body or spectacle he is presenting. (Chapters 1150 and 2011)
An enduring handmade Memory
Unlike many combat Memories that Sunny lost, destroyed, or deliberately converted into Attributes, the Extraordinary Rock remained in his inventory after he became a Supreme Titan. Its continued survival beside Divine relics reflects its narrow but irreplaceable utility rather than raw rank. The latest inventory confirms it is still intact; the passing phrase “extraordinary rock” in Rain's discussion of speaking with the spirits of objects is a joke or comparison, not evidence of a new power or transfer of the Memory. (Chapters 2573 and 2882)
Abilities and properties
Controlled thought-to-speech
The rock can speak in Sunny's voice without requiring him to move his lips. Unlike Noctis's emerald amulet, which voiced thoughts automatically, this copied enchantment is active and lets Sunny decide when to transmit, preserving the rest of his mental privacy. The output remains subject to his Flaw: a thought the rock voices aloud must be truthful, so it cannot manufacture lies merely by speaking for him. (Chapters 695–697 and 711)
Sonorous
Sonorous magnifies voices and other sounds to extreme volume. Sunny uses it to make orders carry over wind and gunfire, to imitate a monster's roar, and to give colossal shadow bodies an appropriately overwhelming voice. The enchantment can reproduce a chosen sound such as Myriad Eater's growl, but the corpus does not present it as an autonomous sonic weapon; its demonstrated function is amplification and theatrical projection. (Chapters 723, 764, 905, 1112–1113, and 2011)
Construction and limits
The Memory is a simple-looking stone with two anchors, making it a second-tier creation. Its communication weave was copied from a runic amulet only after the Nightmare Spell translated that magic during conversion, while Sonorous was copied from another Memory. The project therefore depended on Sunny's study of existing enchantments and on the sacrifice of the unstable amulet; it did not establish that he could invent either effect from first principles at that stage.
