Endless Spring

The Endless Spring is a delicate glass-bottle Memory that produces a seemingly inexhaustible supply of clean water. Cassie gave it to Sunny on the Forgotten Shore, where a dependable source of water became one of his longest-lived and most consistently useful possessions. (Chapters 104, 120, 164, 410, 573, 1258, 2573, 2854)

History

Cassie's farewell gift

The Memory first appears in Sunny's soul arsenal as a beautiful bottle Cassie had given him before a separation. The Spell describes a lovesick devil imprisoning a mighty river in fragile glass as a gift for a desert spirit, and classifies the result as a Dormant tool of the fourth tier. Although it carried no offensive power, Sunny considered it among his most precious Memories because survival outside the Dark City depended as much on water as on weapons. He used it for himself and shared it readily, including with Kai after rescuing the dehydrated archer. (Chapters 104 and 120)

Cassie is later shown formally transferring the Endless Spring to Sunny as a farewell present. Her insistence that he accept something after all he had done for the group gave the practical gift emotional weight, especially because her unusually final goodbye reflected fears she would not explain to him. The corpus presents the bottle as Sunny's possession both before and after that scene, but does not narrate an intervening return or explain the apparent timing; what remains unambiguous is that Cassie was its prior holder and Sunny became its continuing owner. (Chapter 164)

Water in hostile worlds

Sunny carried the bottle throughout expeditions where ordinary supplies were scarce or unsafe. He drank from it while crossing the Chained Isles and used its flow to let himself and Cassie wash after weeks of imprisonment in the Night Temple. The Memory's value lay in removing a basic logistical limit: it supplied enough water for drinking, cleaning, and sharing without forcing the cohort to find a spring, carry heavy reserves, or trust the environment. It did not provide food, restore essence, or remove the physical exhaustion and hunger that accompanied their ordeals. (Chapters 410 and 573)

The bottle also passed between companions at quieter moments. Sunny offered it to Nephis after she recounted her First Nightmare, using a small sound against the glass to guide her in the darkness. Much later, he found himself unable to summon it while separated from normal access to his Memories, showing that an inexhaustible supply is useful only while the tool can be manifested. The restriction came from Sunny's circumstances, not from the bottle running dry or being damaged. (Chapters 1258 and 2324)

Still flowing after Supremacy

The Endless Spring remained in Sunny's reduced inventory after he became a Supreme Titan, surviving years in which many stronger Memories were destroyed, consumed, or replaced. In the real Tomb of Ariel, he summoned it while resting beside a pool with Nephis and Azarax, confirming that the old Dormant tool still functioned despite the enormous growth of its holder. Its latest use is therefore characteristically mundane: it supplies water while Sunny prepares food and asks questions, rather than deciding a battle. (Chapters 2573 and 2854)

Abilities and properties

Gift of Water

The bottle's sole named enchantment, Gift of Water, contains enough water to make flowers bloom in the most lifeless desert. In practice it supplies cold, sweet, clean water repeatedly and in quantities sufficient for drinking, washing, and supporting travel. The corpus never shows the reserve exhausted and treats it as effectively endless, although the exact rate of production, maximum flow, and whether the description is literally infinite are not measured. (Chapters 104, 120, 410, and 573)

The water has no separately established healing or magical-restoration effect. Characters feel relief because they are thirsty, dirty, or physically depleted, not because the enchantment cures wounds or replenishes soul essence. The Memory's main limitation is access: it must be summoned by its holder, so circumstances that prevent Sunny from manifesting Memories also prevent him from drawing water from it. (Chapters 573, 1258, and 2324)

Physical form

Endless Spring manifests as a beautiful, fragile-looking glass bottle. Its story emphasizes the contrast between a mighty captive river and the delicate vessel containing it, but no sourced passage shows the bottle breaking, leaking, or requiring repair. Its Dormant rank and fourth tier describe the Memory's construction rather than reducing its practical value, which remains independent of Sunny's combat rank. (Chapters 104 and 2573–2854)
