Quentin

Quentin is a gallant combat healer whose Aspect combines restoration with corrosion. He serves as the defensive center of Sunny's Antarctic vanguard, survives being lost to the Call by conquering a Second Nightmare alone, and later works as a hidden operative of the Shadow Clan. (Chapters 822, 1002, 1598, and 2799)

Biography

Bulwark of the Antarctic cohort

Sunny chose Quentin as the cohort's second most important member because he could defend, heal, and fight instead of requiring protection himself. Wearing plate armor and carrying sword and shield, Quentin anchored Belle and Dorn while repairing damaged equipment and human flesh. His chivalrous bearing was genuine but not naïve: earlier, he had escaped a Nightmare Creature's digestive cocoon by healing himself faster than its acid dissolved him, then slowly cutting his way free. (Chapters 822, 824, and 829)

Across Antarctica he blocked charges, accumulated corrosion through repeated sword strikes, treated injured soldiers, distributed stimulants, and helped diagnose the Rhino. During the siege of Falcon Scott, however, a nearby Gate took his soul when he lost consciousness. His body remained alive briefly, but Army Command declared him missing and his comrades reasonably assumed that the unexplored Dream Realm would kill him. (Chapters 846, 883, 925, and 1002)

Solitary Ascension and return

Quentin survived the white desert, found a suitable Seed, and conquered the Second Nightmare alone. Because his original body had already been destroyed, the Spell formed a new Ascended body for him at his anchor Citadel. His return years later reunites him with Beth, Kim, and Luster and confirms that the resolve Sunny selected for was enough to overcome what the army had treated as certain death. (Chapter 1598)

As Master Quentin, he supports Beth's infrastructure crews and becomes her romantic partner. He repairs damaged transmission cables, kills creatures threatening workers, and continues using Patient Avenger, the shield inherited from Sunny that served him in both Antarctica and his Second Nightmare. His ordinary public role also lets him protect civilians and friends without advertising his covert allegiance. (Chapters 2269, 2297, 2365, and 2795)

Hidden blade during the Hunger crisis

Quentin secretly joins the Shadow Clan and performs surveillance and protection work. While driving Aiko and Little Ling through Bastion, he discusses growing cult activity and reports information upward; when a Skinwalker vessel attacks, he advances cautiously to support them. Later, Cassie's recovered memory explicitly calls him a hidden blade of the clan. (Chapters 2431–2434 and 2799)

At home Quentin detects Beth's abrupt conversion to Asterion, testing her memory of having opposed the Sovereign only a week earlier. The final scene shows both partners smiling as the Hunger Domain attacks the Ivory Island. Beth's altered thoughts are explicit; Quentin's equally placid participation implies that he was subsequently compromised, but the corpus does not separately narrate the moment or mechanism of his fall. Appearance and personality

Quentin is handsome and distinguished, with a gallant poise that remains evident even while performing mundane tasks such as driving a carriage. As an Awakened soldier he favors full plate armor, sword, and shield. His manner is thoughtful, chivalrous, and sometimes embarrassed by attention, matching his defensive and medical role. His defining trait is perseverance. Quentin remains composed while discussing horrific injuries, fights from the most pressured point of a formation, and survives a solitary journey and Nightmare after everyone writes him off as dead. He is also conscientious enough to notice Beth's altered behavior and to monitor apparently harmless cults rather than dismissing every indirect threat. Abilities and Aspect

Restoration

Quentin's unnamed Aspect centers on restoration and corrosion. Restoration continuously repairs his shield and armor as long as the Memories are damaged rather than completely destroyed. The same near-universal power can mend other objects, the Rhino, and human flesh, making him both a field repair specialist and healer. His medical training lets him support the supernatural effect with conventional treatment. (Chapter 822)

The restoration is broad but comparatively slow and limited. Sunny judges Quentin less efficient than specialist healers such as Nephis or Elyas, and the Ability cannot act on an item that has already been destroyed. Its need for time makes it better for sustained defense and recovery than immediate reversal of catastrophic damage. The corpus does not disclose how Ascension changed its speed, scope, or cost. Corrosion and frontline combat

Quentin can apply a corrosive quality to his weapon. A single strike is not overwhelmingly potent, but repeated wounds accumulate decay until an enemy succumbs. In formation he leans into his self-repairing shield, draws attacks, and creates time for the two offensive fighters beside him; wounded enemies then rot internally as the corrosive effect builds. His swordsmanship, armor use, combat-medic training, and endurance are learned skills rather than separate Abilities. They compensate for the slow pace of both healing and corrosion, but do not remove his limits: a Gate taking his unconscious soul bypasses his defensive routine, and his later resistance to Asterion's mental influence is not established as sufficient. Beth

Beth and Quentin become partners after the Antarctic campaign. He supports her crews as an Ascended repairer and protector, while their private scenes show an easy domestic intimacy. His loyalty makes her conversion especially dangerous: he recognizes the inconsistency immediately, but the last account leaves both of them within the Hunger Domain's apparent control. Sunny and the old cohort

Sunny recruits Quentin as his formation's bulwark and later mourns him as effectively dead. Learning that Quentin survived changes Sunny's count of the cohort's losses and brings genuine solace. Quentin remains friendly with Kim and Luster, inherits Sunny's shield, and eventually serves the secret clan ruled by his former captain. (Chapters 822, 1002, 1598, 2365, and 2799)

Items

Quentin's principal named possession is Patient Avenger, a shield inherited from Sunny. It stores portions of fire and impact damage, then uses that energy to strengthen another weapon or release fire and shockwave attacks; Quentin continues using it as an Ascended.
