Charon
Charon is the Guardian ferryman of the River of Souls, a powerful ogre who turns passage advice and boat construction into costly transactions.
Biography
A ferryman's price encourages another route
Charon greets Yeon-woo with an offer to exchange lifespan for an easier crossing, expecting the authority of a Guardian to make refusal unlikely. Yeon-woo knows that Charon's hints are vague and that essential information costs more, so he declines and gathers materials for another shipwright instead. Other groups still depend on Charon's boats and measure passage in karma or life, making his commercial approach a pressure that rewards Yeon-woo's knowledge of the stage's hidden alternative. (Chapters 265–272)
The bypass survives a factional attack
Heidi's survivors initially plan to use Charon because the River of Souls weakens their bodies and minds, but Yeon-woo brings them onto a vessel made by the Cannibal Monster Humans. The ship proves stronger and more secretive than Charon's ordinary service, becoming the object Triton tries to destroy. Charon does not personally join that battle; his consequence is structural, since avoiding his price gives the refugees enough capacity to move together instead of abandoning their weakest members. (Chapters 271–276)
Appearance and personality
Charon is a five-meter-tall, wrinkled ogre wearing a Guardian's tuxedo and carrying a large hammer. His wide smile exposes fangs and makes a courteous greeting look frightening. (Chapter 265)
He is cheerful, acquisitive, and skilled at presenting a costly bargain as assistance. Charon values information in proportion to what a traveler will pay and stays within the form of a Guardian's service while exploiting how desperate river crossings make players. (Chapters 265–267)
Abilities and powers
Ferry service and information
Charon can produce boats for the River of Souls and give hints that shorten the journey beyond it. Payment may consume lifespan or a large share of accumulated karma, while cheap information remains nonspecific. His service is helpful rather than compulsory: players with the right hidden-stage knowledge can find another shipwright, and a larger group may need more capacity than one affordable boat provides. (Chapters 265–272)
Guardian authority
As a High Guardian for the floors in the twenties, Charon operates within the Bureau's stage administration and carries a large hammer, but the scoped chapters do not show him fighting or define a named combat power. His influence in this arc comes from controlling the obvious route and its prices, not from forcing every traveler to accept his service. (Chapters 265–276)

- Yeon-woo: Yeon-woo rejects Charon's lifespan bargain and uses hidden knowledge to commission another vessel. (Chapters 265–268)
- Shanon: Shanon accompanies Yeon-woo while he gathers materials and initially misunderstands why the ferryman is unnecessary. (Chapter 268)
- Dylan: Dylan's group crosses the stage through the alternative ship, avoiding the limited capacity and costs associated with Charon. (Chapters 271–276)
