Sassa

Sassa is a gifted Hand of God cultivator whose early pride and deliberate cruelty in the banquet battles give way to a settled family life with Borkuren Madiba in the Green Dragon Realm. (Chapters 380–381, 487–488, 544)

Biography

Banquet Battles

Sassa steps into the banquet contests as Elder Ocean's direct disciple. Her youthful appearance suggests that she reached D-Grade unusually early, and the Church initially mistakes her for a child brought along only to observe. Sassa quickly shows that the impression is dangerous: she deliberately injures opponents while presenting each attack as an accident. After Elder Purity privately urges her to injure Jack, Sassa attacks him with the same confidence. Jack evades her repeated strikes, catches her hand, and beats her badly for needlessly injuring the Church cultivators and trying to blind him. Elder Ocean catches her as she is thrown away. The violence heightens tension between the two Elders and leaves Sassa publicly humiliated. (Chapters 380–381)

Family in the Green Dragon Realm

After Jack returns to the Green Dragon Realm, he discovers that Sassa and the Church Envoy Borkuren have become a couple and are raising a son. Sassa no longer carries herself as the aloof, arrogant young fighter Jack remembers; he sees her as a caring mother. Jack guesses that years trapped in the realm changed her, but Sassa does not explain the change herself. The couple named their child Jack because they believed Jack Rust had died. When Jack later alters the realm, Sassa and her family watch the new stars together. (Chapters 487–488, 544)

Appearance and personality

Sassa appears to be about nineteen or twenty, though her actual age is unknown. She is short and graceful, with dark hair in a ponytail, fitted dark clothing, and playful eyes. During combat, her irises narrow into vertical, snake-like slits. Her early manner is proud and taunting; years later she is warm and playful with her family. (Chapters 380–381, 488)

Abilities and cultivation

Sassa is a highly capable close-range fighter. She twists and coils around a spear with snake-like flexibility, uses two fingers shaped like fangs to tear into an opponent, and can teleport behind a target. Her strikes can carry venom: one opponent is left in severe pain after her attack, and she later teleports repeatedly to surround Jack with afterimages and aim for his eyes. The origin of her venom and the method behind her teleportation are unknown. (Chapters 380–381)

At the banquet she is compared to an elite eight-fruit cultivator, and Jack's much lower apparent cultivation leads her to underestimate him. She is nevertheless unable to land a hit on him, and her failure to revise that judgment allows him to seize her hand and overpower her. She later appears as a talented C-Grade member of the Hand of God. (Chapters 381, 487)

Relationships

• Borkuren Madiba: Sassa becomes Borkuren's partner and the mother of their son. Their family life is evident after Jack returns to the Green Dragon Realm; the circumstances of how their relationship began are not described. (Chapters 487–488)
• Elder Ocean: Sassa is his direct disciple and addresses him as Master. He intervenes when Jack defeats her. (Chapters 380–381)
• Jack Rust: Sassa deliberately attacks Jack after Elder Purity's instruction, but Jack evades and defeats her. Years later she treats him warmly and agrees with Borkuren's choice to name their son after him. (Chapters 381, 488)
