Sun Yunshan
Sun Yunshan is the junior sect master of the Xuan Yuan Sect, a composed young leader who travels with Wang Lin into the Demon Spirit Land and later risks the control implanted in his own body to expose a hidden cultivation union and save his sister. (Chapters 515–520 and 618–624)
Biography
The journey through the transfer array
Sun Yunshan waits at the Xuan Yuan Sect transfer array with a jade fan and receives Wang Lin as a traveling companion. When his younger sister Sun Ruonan insists on joining, he refuses because he understands that the destination is too dangerous to treat as an excursion. He introduces the three accompanying elders, manages the sect's side of the departure, and asks Wang to look out for him once they enter the unfamiliar region. His knowledge includes the expedition's extraordinary duration: entrants may remain inside for five hundred years before the route opens again. (Chapters 515–520)
A puppet who chooses to betray his captors
In the Demon Spirit Land, Sun Yunshan and his party fall under a fake Celestial Realm Ancestor's cultivation union. A celestial seed implanted in him can control his actions, an elder from his sect has had his memories erased into obedient puppetry, and Sun Ruonan is held as leverage. Even so, Sun Yunshan warns Wang that the union intends to capture him. The confession is a dangerous act of resistance: he chooses the possibility of rescue over the short-term safety offered by compliance. (Chapters 618–620)
Guiding the counterattack
Sun Yunshan gives Wang the hidden union's location and uses a jade object to suppress or delay the seed's control long enough to accompany the attack. Wang destroys the organization, removes the celestial seeds, and rescues Sun Ruonan. Sun Yunshan's response mixes joy at his sister's survival with the shock of seeing the force Wang can bring against enemies who had seemed untouchable. His story ends after the immediate rescue, without a later account of his leadership in the Xuan Yuan Sect. (Chapters 621–624)
Appearance and personality
Sun Yunshan is introduced holding a jade fan, an image that matches his calm and courteous behavior as junior sect master. He is protective without being indulgent, barring Sun Ruonan from the dangerous journey despite her objections. Under captivity, fear for his sister does not eliminate his judgment or courage. He waits for an opening, tells Wang the truth, and accepts the risk of the seed's retaliation to help dismantle the union. (Chapters 515–520 and 618–624)
Abilities and cultivation
- Xuan Yuan Sect cultivation: Sun Yunshan is a trained cultivator and the sect's designated junior master, but the cited chapters do not assign him a precise realm or show a signature destructive technique. His authority and experience matter more to the recorded events than direct combat. (Chapters 515–520)
- Expedition leadership: He organizes the transfer-array party, introduces its senior members, assesses who is fit to travel, and understands the five-hundred-year limit governing the journey. These are practical competencies backed by his position in the sect. (Chapters 515–520)
- Resistance to the celestial seed: The implanted seed gives the fake ancestor leverage over Sun Yunshan rather than granting him power. He nevertheless retains enough agency to warn Wang and uses a jade object to hold the control at bay temporarily. The resistance buys time for the counterattack but does not let him remove the seed himself. (Chapters 618–624)
Relationships
- Wang Lin: Sun Yunshan begins by asking Wang for mutual support during the expedition. Later he trusts Wang with the union's location, and Wang repays that trust by removing the seeds and rescuing Sun Ruonan. (Chapters 517, 620–624)
- Sun Ruonan: Sun Yunshan's younger sister is the person he is most determined to protect. He first keeps her from the expedition and later risks the celestial seed's control to free her from captivity. (Chapters 515–516 and 618–624)
- The fake Celestial Realm Ancestor: The false ancestor's union controls Sun Yunshan through an implanted seed and his sister's captivity. Sun answers that coercion by becoming the source of the information Wang needs to destroy it. (Chapters 618–624)
Items
- Jade fan: Sun Yunshan carries a jade fan when he receives Wang Lin at the transfer array, reinforcing the composed bearing associated with his role as junior sect master. (Chapter 515)
- Seed-suppressing jade: During the counterattack, he holds a jade object that helps delay the celestial seed's control. It is a temporary restraint, not a cure; Wang ultimately removes the seed. (Chapters 621–624)
