Sun Xi is the founding ancestor of the Sun family and one of planet Ran Yun's three Ascendant cultivators. His attempt to recruit Wang Lin as protection from the Huan family becomes a desperate struggle for survival: Huan Mei destroys his original body, but a hidden clone lives and is later raised to Soul Transformation by Wang Lin. Biography

Testing Xu Mu

Sun Xi approaches Wang Lin after an earlier probe fails to reveal the stranger's cultivation. He recognizes both Wang Lin's confidence and the killing intent of someone who has repeatedly defeated peers, apologizes for testing him, and offers the Sun family's support and a future place in the Thunder Celestial Realm. Their conversation becomes a cautious exchange of implications: Sun Xi hints that Wang Lin may be an outsider, while Wang Lin names a Sun junior he once saved to show that the investigation does not frighten him. (Chapters 667–668)

Sun Xi then explains the danger behind a rank-eight pill being auctioned in the city. Four years earlier, he, the Ran ancestor, and Carefree Sanren ambushed a cultivator and only afterward discovered a Huan family token. The Ran family uses the auction to spread responsibility for the stolen property. Sun Xi helps Wang Lin see the trap and later accepts Wang Lin's price—seventy percent of the Sun family's celestial jades—in exchange for protection when the Huan family retaliates. Death of the main body

Huan Mei arrives to exterminate the three implicated families. Her ruthless illusion domain makes Sun Xi perceive her through the feelings attached to a loved one, destroying his will to attack. At her command he burns his origin soul and body, fights the Ran ancestor, and self-destructs without recovering clarity. His original Ascendant body and origin soul dissipate. (Chapter 678)

Sun Xi survives only because he secretly prepared a Core Formation clone after the killing four years earlier. The clone is too weak to leave Ran Yun and is discovered when the main body's death creates a fluctuation. Wang Lin's return prevents Huan Mei from immediately eliminating it. Sun Xi admits that the three ancestors concealed their survival plans while making Wang Lin their shield. (Chapters 678–679 and 682)

Rebuilding the Sun family

Wang Lin chooses to settle the debt rather than punish Sun Xi. Using the Underworld River, the planet's remaining spiritual energy, and a rank-eight pill, he raises the clone to mid Soul Transformation. The shortcut permanently limits Sun Xi's future growth, a cost Sun Xi knowingly accepts rather than risk the life-and-death trial of Ascendant cultivation again. He is left to protect and resettle the three families. (Chapter 682)

Over the next twenty years, the Sun family replaces the Ran family as the dominant power on the planet. Sun Xi remains its ancestor and appoints Sun Qiming as the next family head, though the clan's new position also breeds arrogance among its descendants. He is still active when later thunder and celestial energy shake Ran Yun. (Chapters 695 and 700–709)

Appearance and personality

Sun Xi first appears as a purple-robed man. He is cunning, observant, and skilled at negotiating through implication, but his schemes are driven as much by fear as ambition. He tries to make Wang Lin shoulder the Huan family's retaliation without disclosing the clone, then confesses once the deception has failed. After losing his Ascendant body, he becomes visibly cautious and awed around Wang Lin, yet remains capable of rebuilding his family from the disaster. (Chapters 667–668, 671–672, and 678–695)

Abilities and cultivation

  • Original early Ascendant cultivation: Sun Xi is one of only three Ascendant cultivators on Ran Yun. He possesses the experience and comprehension of that realm, but is still unable to resist Huan Mei's peak late Ascendant illusion domain. (Chapters 667–668 and 678)
  • Clone survival method: He prepares a duplicate body and divides enough of himself into it to survive the main body's death. The clone begins only at Core Formation, cannot leave the planet unaided, and is revealed by a fluctuation when the main body dies. It is a contingency, not an equal second body. (Chapter 678)
  • Reconstructed cultivation: Because his comprehension survives, Wang Lin can rapidly supply the clone with spiritual energy. A rank-eight pill and the Underworld River raise it to mid Soul Transformation, but the artificial advance permanently closes further cultivation. (Chapter 682)
  • Strategic perception: Sun Xi sees through the Ran family's auction trap, recognizes the significance of Wang Lin's killing intent, and understands how to negotiate with an overwhelmingly stronger cultivator. These are social and strategic abilities rather than named spells. (Chapters 667–672)
  • Limits under illusion: Huan Mei's domain converts personal feeling into fanatic obedience. Sun Xi burns his body and origin soul, attacks an ally, and self-destructs without waking, demonstrating that his Ascendant cultivation offers no sufficient defense against her technique. (Chapter 678)

Relationships

  • Wang Lin: Sun Xi first probes and recruits Wang Lin, then helps place the Huan family's burden on him. After the concealed clone is exposed, Wang Lin still restores his cultivation and entrusts him with the planet's surviving families. (Chapters 667–682)
  • Huan Mei: Her family seeks revenge for the cultivator Sun Xi helped kill. Her illusion domain destroys his main body and nearly exposes the clone that preserves his life. (Chapters 668 and 677–679)
