Biography

The Devil Lord meets Wang Lin

Shang Guanmo approaches the cultivator marked by the Ten Thousand Devil Hundred Day Kill Order with theatrical confidence, calls himself the Black Cloak Devil Lord, and offers Wang Lin half an hour to prepare for death. He is at peak mid Core Formation and believes Wang Lin's early Core Formation appearance guarantees victory. Wang Lin's Ji Realm instead triggers and splits the jade that should block a full Nascent Soul attack. (Chapter 151)

The apparent “death spell” destroys Shang Guanmo's confidence. He kneels, begs to become a disciple, and finally gives up a drop of golden soul essence blood. Once Wang Lin swallows it, a single thought can kill Shang Guanmo, and Wang Lin's own death would also cause his. Survival therefore turns the former attacker into an eager subordinate. (Chapters 151–152)

Service on the road to the Fighting Evil Sect

Shang Guanmo leads Wang Lin through the Sea of Devils, warns away opportunists, fights Core Formation cultivators, and helps kill an enemy through a surprise attack. He is frightened by the growing crowd but understands that a decisive display of violence will prevent stronger predators from gathering. His obedience is partly forced, yet his respect increases as Wang Lin repeatedly demonstrates power beyond Core Formation. (Chapters 152–154)

After Wang Lin kills Jie Donglei and conquers the Fighting Evil Sect, Shang Guanmo immediately calls him teacher and congratulates him. Wang Lin appoints Shang Guanmo as sect head while retaining actual control. Shang Guanmo manages the sect, assists Li Muwan, and briefly considers escape when Wang Lin's presence disappears, only to abandon the idea as soon as Wang Lin returns. (Chapters 155–157)

A Nascent Soul pursuer extracts another drop of Shang Guanmo's soul essence blood and uses the connection between the two drops to track Wang Lin. Wang Lin eventually throws away the blood he holds as a decoy. The pursuing Eighth Extreme Demon Lord catches and crushes it in anger. Earlier narration establishes that destroying the controlled blood can kill Shang Guanmo, so his death is strongly implied even though the distant body is not shown. (Chapters 152, 158, and 161)

Appearance and personality

Shang Guanmo is a fat, middle-aged man with a protruding stomach, green eyes, and a sly smile that undermines his attempt to look murderous. He bullies weaker cultivators, hides from Nascent Soul experts, and rapidly changes allegiance when survival requires it. He is cowardly but perceptive: he recognizes the strategic need to frighten a crowd, learns from Wang Lin's strength, and performs assigned work enthusiastically enough to protect his new position. (Chapters 151–157)

Abilities and cultivation

  • Peak mid Core Formation cultivation: Shang Guanmo is one step from late Core Formation and is reputed to use a cultivation method superior to the Fighting Evil Sect head elder's. His local reputation is formidable, but it depends on carefully avoiding true Nascent Soul opponents. (Chapter 151)
  • Black flying sword: He carries a black sword on his back and sends it against an old Core Formation acquaintance. The weapon supports direct ranged combat, although the corpus does not give its technique a formal name. (Chapter 153)
  • Core Formation combat and ambush: Shang Guanmo can hold his own against comparable cultivators and kills one opponent through a surprise attack while the Mu brothers occupy the target. The result shows practical lethality rather than overwhelming realm advantage. (Chapter 153)
  • Soul essence blood: Shang Guanmo willingly extracts golden soul blood to secure mercy. The act damages his cultivation and links his life to the holder, making obedience enforceable and later allowing a pursuer to track Wang Lin. This is a surrender mechanism, not an offensive ability. (Chapters 151–152 and 158–161)
  • Protective jade: A jade left by his master is said to withstand one full attack from a Nascent Soul cultivator. Wang Lin's Ji Realm activates and splits it, saving Shang Guanmo from immediate death but proving the protection consumable. (Chapter 151)

Relationships

  • Wang Lin: Shang Guanmo attempts to extort Wang Lin, then becomes his bound subordinate and nominal disciple. Wang Lin makes him sect head but retains his soul blood as control and later uses that blood to misdirect a pursuer. (Chapters 151–161)
  • Li Muwan: Shang Guanmo assists Li Muwan during her study of the Fighting Evil Sect's dragon formation, providing light and arranging a room at her request. His exaggerated diligence is partly meant to impress Wang Lin. (Chapter 157)
  • Eighth Extreme Demon Lord: The demon lord uses Shang Guanmo's blood as a tracking link and ultimately crushes the drop, an act that implies Shang Guanmo's death. (Chapters 158 and 161)
