Ouyang Hua

Ouyang Hua is the white-haired elder of a Demon Spirit Land valley who negotiates with Wang Lin and learns from him how to make soul flags. (Chapters 522 and 1000)

Biography

Defender of the hidden valley

Ouyang Hua is the white-haired elder of an isolated Demon Spirit Land village whose ancestors were settled there by a man called Huang Long. When Wang Lin captures tribesmen and studies the valley's ancient formation, Ouyang Hua first negotiates through an illusion, then threatens to turn him into a sacrificial demon shadow. Wang Lin breaks the formation's logic and forces his surrender, but chooses not to expose the village after seeing its mortal families. Ouyang Hua responds to that restraint by admitting him inside, explaining the recurring demon-spirit nights, and exchanging a demon spirit crystal for medicine. His hospitality is strategic as well as grateful: Wang Lin's attack has weakened the formation, and Ouyang Hua hopes the foreign cultivator will defend the tribe when the night assault begins. Learning soul refinement

Wang Lin's protection becomes a transformation of the whole community. He adapts the Soul Refining Sect's techniques to demonic spiritual energy and teaches Ouyang Hua and the younger Thirteen. Ouyang Hua reaches the third stage, secretly completes a small soul flag before Thirteen, and leads raids against nearby tribes. He also recognizes that Wang Lin's attention has settled on Thirteen and deliberately lets the younger man receive public credit, reasoning that leadership belongs to the next generation. As more villagers learn, formal authority shifts away from Ouyang Hua toward Wang Lin, whom the tribe treats as its ancestor. Ouyang Hua accepts that change and becomes the administrator who turns the ancestor's instructions into recruitment, training, and military organization. (Chapters 532–541)

Expansion of the Soul Refining Tribe

Before leaving, Wang Lin entrusts Ouyang Hua with the restricted soul-extraction half of the inheritance and orders agents inserted into surrounding tribes. Ouyang Hua memorizes and destroys the jade, promising to reserve it for core disciples. He and Thirteen later lead the tribe's armies, absorb rival communities, and personally assess who is ready to collect battlefield souls. Hundreds of years of expansion produce millions of members and ninety-nine great soul flags under Ouyang Hua's command. The tribe contests the fragmented Fire Demon Country, and Ouyang Hua orders the combined “Soul Extinguish” attack that covers its capital in hundreds of millions of fragments. The ancestor's return

Ouyang Hua's obedience is sustained by both reverence and fear. Even after centuries of independent success, he never challenges the ancestor whose spell created the tribe. When Wang Lin returns, Ouyang Hua recognizes him immediately and welcomes him before the assembled millions. Wang Lin rewards the elder's work with the complete low-quality celestial spell Soul Refining Ascension, while acknowledging the unusual imbalance in his cultivation: with all ninety-nine flags Ouyang Hua can fight an Ascendant, but without them his power plummets. Ouyang Hua remains responsible for distributing the tribe's treasure-pavilion rewards and maintaining the institution Wang Lin leaves to develop on its own. (Chapters 999 and 1000)

Appearance and personality

Ouyang Hua is a white-haired, bearded old man whose original body appears physically weak; he can project a more imposing illusion while remaining within the valley. He is protective, suspicious, and capable of cruelty toward outsiders, yet pragmatic enough to surrender when Wang Lin demonstrates control of the formation. His defining political talent is adaptation. He flatters overwhelming power, preserves village cohesion, notices Thirteen's future importance, and turns a borrowed cultivation system into a durable mass institution. Abilities and cultivation

Demonic spiritual energy and valley formation

Ouyang Hua's original power comes from Demon Spirit Land methods rather than orthodox cultivation. He projects an illusionary body outside the village and maintains an ancient green formation through blood, chants, and hand signs. The array can create a giant green figure, close a cage around an intruder, and absorb souls into demon shadows. It is strong enough to make a Soul Transformation cultivator study rather than simply force entry, but its structure is inherited, not fully understood by Ouyang Hua. Once Wang Lin deduces its nodes, he can interrupt or dismantle it, and damage leaves the village exposed during demon-spirit night. Ouyang Hua's control therefore depends on prepared terrain and continuous maintenance. (Chapters 522–526)

Soul flags and collective warfare

Wang Lin teaches Ouyang Hua to refine captured soul fragments into flags using demonic spiritual energy. His first revealed flag is only three inches long and releases a bird soul, but centuries of collection produce ninety-nine large flags capable of summoning hundreds of millions of fragments. Together they let him contend with an Ascendant cultivator. The scaling is external: every flag needs materials and stored souls, and the elder's personal power falls sharply without the set. At army scale he coordinates millions of lesser flags into Soul Extinguish, surrounding a city in black soul fog. The same system supports growth because agents can carry soul fragments that resist memory-wiping potions while teaching infiltrated tribes. (Chapters 534, 567, and 995–1000)

Soul Refining Ascension

As payment for centuries of service, Wang Lin gives Ouyang Hua Soul Refining Ascension, a complete low-quality celestial spell aligned with his soul-based cultivation. It is already difficult for him to practice because Demon Spirit Land energy and his flag-dependent foundation do not match conventional celestial progression. The spell offers a route to strengthen the cultivator rather than only the stored army of souls, but the corpus does not show him completing it. His demonstrated advancement remains institutional and artifact-driven: stronger flags, more fragments, better-trained subordinates, and coordinated mass attacks. (Chapter 1000)

• Wang Lin: Wang Lin defeats his valley's formation, saves the tribe, and becomes its acknowledged ancestor by teaching soul refinement. Ouyang Hua administers the resulting society for centuries and receives a celestial soul spell in reward. (Chapters 522–541, 567, and 999–1000)
