Biography

The rainy temple and a forgotten heart

Mo Zhi meets Wang Lin in an abandoned temple while Wang Lin is returning to Zhao. Although no spiritual energy is visible on him, he instantly recognizes that the disguised cultivator is close to forming a domain. Their exchange begins with a mortal calling them mad. Mo Zhi accepts the description: in his view, pursuing immortality and the laws of heaven requires a desire so consuming that ordinary people can only call it madness. His thoughts repeatedly vanish mid-conversation as his Forget domain takes hold, but each return to confusion opens another insight. He describes rain as a life born in the sky and ending on earth, and death as the stillness that follows when a person—or the heart—can no longer feel. Wang Lin recognizes that this “heart's death” is both Mo Zhi's domain and the cause of his fragmented memory. The encounter clears Wang Lin's last obstruction before Soul Formation. Messenger in the Suzaku Tomb

Mo Zhi later appears as the Cultivation Alliance's masked messenger inside the collapsing Suzaku Tomb. He offers Wang Lin the position of the next Suzaku, negotiates terms that assign part of the planet to the Forsaken Immortal Clan, and restores the broken tomb with a white crystal and a single command. He repairs the Suzaku inheritance crystal, evaluates candidates, and accepts Wang Lin's request to appoint Zhou Wutai. His indifference to the title contrasts with its enormous importance on the planet: his real interest remains Wang Lin, whom he remembers from the rainy temple even through the gaps in his domain. Before leaving, he gives Wang Lin a seal that can open an exit from the tomb. (Chapter 468)

Return as Chu Yun's envoy

Nearly a thousand years later, Mo Zhi serves the powerful Chu Yun Sect under a teacher whose foresight Wang Lin finds extraordinary. Sent to congratulate the new Vermillion Bird Divine Emperor, he arrives with celestial pills, treasures, and a sealed spirit refined by his teacher. He suspects the armored emperor's identity and recognizes Wang Lin once the disguise is removed. Over wine beside a volcano, the two revisit their first debate. Mo Zhi explains that he had originally been stationed on planet Suzaku by his teacher and that a person's domain changes with the state of the heart. Wang Lin uses that idea while developing his understanding of true and false. (Chapters 1090–1097 and 1101)

Carrying Wang Lin's warning

Their reunion is also political. Wang Lin gives Mo Zhi four jades containing information capable of destabilizing the Alliance's major powers. Mo Zhi understands both the overt message and Wang Lin's warning that Chu Yun should remain outside the coming trap. He returns immediately, delivers the jades to his teacher, and has three of them transmitted to the other great Alliance forces. The episode makes him more than a philosophical wanderer: he is a trusted envoy who can interpret implication, assess risk, and move information between the highest powers without betraying his own sect. Knowledge beyond the cave world

At the end of Wang Lin's journey, the rainy conversation surfaces as evidence that older forces understood more about reincarnation and dream dao than Wang Lin once realized. Mo Zhi visits Wang Lin on planet Suzaku centuries after the cave world opens, unchanged in appearance and carrying wine. He warns that Wang Lin is tormenting himself by refusing to forget Li Muwan, but does not force an answer when Wang Lin asks whether “Mo Zhi” is his real identity. Before departing, he says his teacher wants the Defying Earth Realm's boundary compass returned. Appearance and personality

At the rainy temple, Mo Zhi appears as a large, long-haired man in a thin robe; later appearances describe him as a bald young man, often dressed in green. The source does not explain whether this change reflects disguise, cultivation, or an early descriptive inconsistency. His eyes move between confusion, emptiness, and sudden wisdom as the Forget domain disrupts his memory. He is warm, curious, and unoffended by difficult questions. Even when acting with the authority of the Cultivation Alliance, he prefers negotiation and lets Wang Lin refuse the Suzaku title. Forget domain

Mo Zhi's domain is described through “heart's death” and forgetting. His memory can dissolve during a conversation until he forgets both the topic and the name just given to him; what remains is his orientation toward dao. The loss is not simple absent-mindedness but the cost or expression of a domain in which a dead heart releases its attachments. It lets him turn ordinary images—fire, still water, a ruined shrine, falling rain—into precise models of life and death. Mo Zhi can appear completely mortal, without a trace of spiritual energy, while seeing through Wang Lin's disguise and recognizing that his domain is near completion.
