Biography

A body beneath the collapsed mountain

Kang Ren investigates the mountain destroyed by Wang Lin's fall and finds a powerful, apparently dying man carrying a coffin. His reputation within the Blue Dragon Sect rests partly on knowing whom he can safely exploit, and even some second-generation disciples avoid provoking him. After an ink-colored jade with the force of a Nirvana Cleanser attack fails to harm the stranger, he correctly recognizes the body's extraordinary strength but draws the wrong conclusion: he assumes the man cannot awaken and decides that such a body would make an exceptional puppet. His interest also extends to the woman sealed inside the coffin. (Chapters 1801–1802)

He captures both with a puppet net and returns to his cave. There he activates its protections, places nine ordinary puppets outside and two wooden puppets within, and commits his collected materials to an earth-fire refining formation. The decision is driven by greed but is not wholly reckless by Kang Ren's standards; he tests the target, secures the site, and uses the strongest refining resources he has available. The mistake is that none of those precautions accounts for Wang Lin's true level. (Chapters 1802–1803)

The refining fire helps awaken Wang Lin instead of remaking him. When Wang pulls a much greater mass of earth fire into the cave, Kang Ren's eleven puppets and prepared materials are destroyed. Wang shields Kang Ren from the flames because he needs information, then seizes him and searches his soul. Kang Ren survives the search and is thrown aside under restraint, but the corpus does not establish his fate after that scene. (Chapters 1803–1804)

Kang Ren's memories give Wang his first working map of the Immortal Astral Continent, including the local sects, the Green Devil Continent, and the bloodline-locked storage space carried by cultivators there. Later recollections of those memories do not represent new appearances by Kang Ren; his narrative consequence is that an attempted act of predation becomes Wang's orientation to an unfamiliar world. Appearance and personality

Kang Ren is a handsome young man. He is explicitly cunning and cruel, combining predatory opportunism with enough judgment to maintain a valued position in his sect. His inspection of Wang shows both sides: he tests an unknown body before acting and prepares layered defenses, yet greed makes him treat survival through that test as proof of helplessness rather than a warning. Abilities and cultivation

  • Cultivation: Kang Ren is a favored third-generation Blue Dragon Sect disciple, but the corpus never states his exact realm. The ink jade he uses carries power comparable to a Nirvana Cleanser attack; that comparison describes the consumable's strike, not necessarily Kang Ren's own cultivation. (Chapters 1801–1802)
  • Puppet refinement: Kang Ren prepares an underground formation that draws on earth fire and consumes stored materials to refine a captured body.
