Duanmu Ji

Duanmu Ji, the Eighth Extreme Demon Lord and head of Qi Mei City, is one of four Sea of Devils experts who survived an earlier attempt to penetrate the restrictions around the Land of the Ancient God. He organizes a second expedition, recruiting specialists whose techniques match the trials, but disappears inside while Wang Lin eventually survives. (Chapters 166–179 and 201)

Biography

Preparing a second expedition

A thousand years after the first failed expedition, Duanmu Ji returns with detailed knowledge of the route and its hazards. He travels on an expanding gourd, uses an ancient transfer formation, and spends rare top-quality spirit stones to reach the Chaotic Broken Stars in time. He recruits Wang Qingyue for five-element escape and brings Wang Lin because the latter's death spell may answer the third trial's divine-sense attack. His recruitment is practical and coercive: he warns Wang Lin about stronger companions while withholding the full truth of the destination. (Chapters 166–168)

Bargaining with Wang Lin

Duanmu Ji promises Wang Lin an Earth Transformation Pill and Nascent Forming Pill in exchange for his help, but initially tries to delay payment until after the third trial. Wang Lin refuses to proceed on trust alone. Under that pressure, Duanmu Ji hands over both pills before they enter the ring, showing that he will bargain when necessary but prefers to preserve leverage. (Chapter 168)

Through the restrictions

The expedition combines Duanmu Ji with Six Desire Devil Lord, Hunchback Meng, Ancient Emperor, Wang Qingyue, and two younger specialists. Duanmu Ji contributes his knowledge of the route and his remaining top-quality stones, directs Wang Lin to follow him when danger erupts, and treats the division of treasure as something to settle only after the restrictions are broken. His sly refusal to define shares reflects the distrust among the veteran survivors, all of whom expect betrayal if a Soul Transformation Pill appears. (Chapters 168–179)

Disappearance

Duanmu Ji never emerges from the Land of the Ancient God. Two hundred years later, cultivators in the Sea of Devils remember that the heads of Qi Mei City and several other major powers entered the Chaotic Broken Stars together and vanished. Their successors repeatedly searched the region without finding a clue. The supplied corpus gives no later recovery, confirmed corpse, or account of Duanmu Ji's end. (Chapter 201)

Appearance and personality

Duanmu Ji is an old man with an established demonic reputation. He is grumpy, sly, and resource-conscious, complaining over every destroyed top-quality spirit stone and resisting payment until Wang Lin forces the issue. At the same time, he is an able organizer: he remembers the trials after a millennium, selects specialists for specific obstacles, and keeps the expedition moving under pressure. (Chapters 166–168)

Abilities and cultivation

  • Spirit Formation cultivation: Later testimony identifies Duanmu Ji among the well-known Spirit Formation experts who vanished in the Chaotic Broken Stars. His exact substage is not stated. (Chapter 201)
  • Expedition knowledge: He knows the location of the ancient transfer formation, the structure of the early trials, and which specialized arts are needed to pass them. This planning is his clearest demonstrated strength. (Chapters 166–168 and 178)
  • High-speed gourd travel: An enlarged gourd carries Duanmu Ji and companions rapidly through the Sea of Devils and is recognized by other cultivators as belonging to a formidable senior. (Chapter 166)
  • Ancient transfer activation: He forms seals, supplies top-quality spirit stones, and operates ancient formations needed to reach the Chaotic Broken Stars. (Chapters 166 and 168)

Relationships

  • Wang Lin: Recruited for the death spell and promised two pills. Their cooperation remains distrustful, with Wang Lin forcing payment before entering the trial. (Chapters 166–168)
  • Wang Qingyue: Higher-country messenger recruited because his five-element escape technique is useful to the expedition. (Chapters 166–168)
  • Six Desire Devil Lord, Hunchback Meng, and Ancient Emperor: Fellow survivors of the first expedition and partners in the second. Their alliance is based on complementary techniques and shared greed, not personal trust. (Chapters 167–168)

Items

  • Traveling gourd: Duanmu Ji's recognizable flying vessel, capable of carrying multiple people through the Sea of Devils at high speed. (Chapter 166)
  • Top-quality spirit stones: Rare stones he spends reluctantly to power ancient transfer formations. (Chapters 166 and 168)
  • Earth Transformation Pill and Nascent Forming Pill: Promised to Wang Lin for assisting with the third trial and delivered before entry when Wang Lin refuses further delay. (Chapter 168)
