Chu Yunfei is the early Ascendant ancestor revered by the Heavenly Jade Sect. He leads the sect against the Forsaken Immortal Clan, but injuries from that campaign leave him vulnerable to Yunque Zi, who forces him to abandon planet Suzaku. (Chapters 406 and 426–430)

Biography

The approaching upheaval

Cloud tokens and disturbances around the Immortal Graveyard draw Chu Yunfei out of long seclusion. As the Heavenly Jade Sect's only Ascendant cultivator, he recognizes that the balance of planet Suzaku is changing. When Situ Nan's aura later spreads across the planet, Chu Yunfei gathers dozens of Soul Formation cultivators, three Soul Transformation cultivators, and more than one hundred Nascent Soul cultivators for the eastern campaign. (Chapters 406 and 426)

Battle with the Forsaken Immortal Clan

Chu Yunfei challenges the Forsaken Immortal Clan's fifth ancestor directly. He shatters the surrounding black cloud and attacks the coffin being used in the clan's ritual, destroying it with one palm before engaging the fifth ancestor amid shockwaves of celestial spiritual energy. When the Reincarnation Ancestral Spirit Tree emerges, its first shockwave injures him and forces a retreat. A second battle three days later aggravates those injuries, persuading him to stop supporting Zhuque Zi and return to his sect. (Chapters 427 and 429)

Exile from Suzaku

Yunque Zi intercepts Chu Yunfei before he reaches the Heavenly Jade Sect and advises him to leave planet Suzaku for one thousand years. Chu Yunfei refuses until an illusionary figure summoned from black wood passes through his celestial spiritual energy and strikes his chest. Already wounded and unable to oppose the hidden power behind Yunque Zi, he agrees and flees the planet. His departure removes one of the few Ascendant defenders capable of entering the Immortal Graveyard. (Chapters 429–430 and 433)

Chu Yunfei leaves the Soul Lasher behind in Qian Feng's possession. He knows the whip is mysterious, but fears that reclaiming it from Zhuque Zi's disciple would create a dangerous conflict while he is being forced away. Wang Lin later acquires the abandoned treasure. (Chapter 471)

Appearance and personality

Chu Yunfei is a very thin, white-haired old man who wears black or white robes in different scenes. His eyes are bright and later described as lightning-like. He is decisive enough to lead a large sect army and confront the fifth ancestor personally, yet pragmatic when the Spirit Tree and accumulated wounds turn the battle against him. His cold refusal of Yunque Zi's warning gives way to retreat only after a decisive demonstration of superior force. (Chapters 406, 426–430)

Abilities and cultivation

  • Early Ascendant cultivation: Chu Yunfei is explicitly the Heavenly Jade Sect's only Ascendant cultivator. His aura and celestial spiritual energy create lethal battle shockwaves, placing him far above the Soul Transformation and Nascent Soul followers he commands. (Chapters 406 and 426–427)
  • Celestial spiritual energy: He gathers celestial spiritual energy into a defense against the illusionary figure's palm. The figure passes through it, showing that the defense is substantial but ineffective against that particular higher power. (Chapter 430)
  • Palm force: A single palm destroys the Corpse Sect coffin used in the Forsaken Immortal ritual. He also closes on the Reincarnation Tree immediately, demonstrating force and movement suited to direct Ascendant combat. (Chapter 427)
  • Ascendant perception: Chu Yunfei detects Situ Nan's powerful aura from afar and correctly treats it as a major change in the planet's balance. His perception does not, however, reveal the full strength hidden behind Yunque Zi's black wood. (Chapters 426 and 430)

Relationships

  • Yunque Zi: Yunque Zi warns Chu Yunfei to leave for one thousand years, then uses an illusionary helper to enforce the demand. Chu Yunfei survives but is driven from Suzaku. (Chapters 429–430)
  • Forsaken Immortal Clan's fifth ancestor: Chu Yunfei leads the Heavenly Jade Sect against the fifth ancestor and fights him repeatedly. The Reincarnation Spirit Tree and his worsening injuries eventually end his participation. (Chapters 427 and 429)
  • Wang Lin: They do not form a direct personal relationship in the cited scenes. Wang Lin later obtains Chu Yunfei's former Soul Lasher through Qian Feng's possessions. (Chapter 471)

  • Soul Lasher: A mysterious whip that can release its own force without the wielder supplying spiritual energy. Chu Yunfei abandons it rather than provoke a conflict over Qian Feng, and Wang Lin later takes it. (Chapter 471)
