Adai

Adai is a mysterious humanoid whom Wu Yu finds sleeping inside an ancient statue. His body contains an unexplained power strong enough to repel a Nascent Soul possession attempt, making him both Wu Yu's companion and a coveted future vessel for the Corpse Sect. (Chapters 93 and 96–101)

Biography

Awakening inside the statue

Wu Yu discovers Adai asleep in the statue where the injured cultivator later hides from his rebellious corpse puppet. He attempts to possess Adai, but a strange force within Adai's body repels him after consuming most of Wu Yu's Nascent Energy. The failed possession awakens Adai and creates a sense of linked lives between them. Adai thereafter protects Wu Yu, reacts angrily when Wang Lin threatens him, and helps operate the statue despite lacking ordinary speech. (Chapter 93)

When Wu Yu's enemies breach the refuge, he asks Wang Lin for help and even offers Adai to him, emphasizing both the nine talismans found on Adai's body and their unknown power. Adai enters the emergency transfer formation with Wang Lin, leaving Wu Yu behind and arriving in the subterranean Zhao branch of the Corpse Sect. (Chapters 93–95)

A target of the Corpse Sect

Corpse Sect disciples mistake Adai for an exceptionally intelligent corpse puppet because he follows Wang Lin, reacts to others, and can speak in unfamiliar sounds. Ye Zizai instead recognizes that Adai accompanied Wu Yu and that his constitution is exceptionally well suited to the sect's cultivation. He removes Adai from Wang Lin, announces that he will take him as a personal disciple, and initially claims that Wu Yu's connection guarantees his safety. (Chapters 95–96)

That protection is compromised by Ye Zizai's own need for a replacement body. After sealing Adai's senses, Ye Zizai admits that Adai is one of several candidates he is preparing for possession and ultimately chooses him. He bargains for Luo Sha to raise Adai to the Core Formation stage so that the body will be easier to occupy. The corpus does not show whether the promised advancement or possession is completed, leaving Adai's fate unresolved. (Chapters 96–97 and 101)

Appearance and personality

Adai is repeatedly described as a strange man or strange person rather than given a conventional portrait. Nine talismans are attached to his body when first encountered. His expressions and conduct show intelligence clearly: he is protective of Wu Yu, cautious around Wang Lin, confused by unfamiliar surroundings, and nervous or angry when strangers scrutinize him. He communicates in words others regard as strange, which contributes to the Corpse Sect disciples' belief that he is an evolved puppet. (Chapters 93–96)

Abilities and cultivation

• Possession-resistant constitution: An unexplained force inside Adai's body prevents Wu Yu, then a Nascent Soul cultivator, from taking possession even after Wu Yu spends most of his Nascent Energy. The source and limits of this force are not revealed. (Chapter 93)
• Corpse Sect aptitude: Ye Zizai judges Adai's body exceptionally suitable for Corpse Sect cultivation. He considers cultivating it to Core Formation before using it as a possession vessel, but the text does not confirm that Adai reaches that realm. (Chapters 96–97 and 101)
• Independent intelligence: Adai can assess danger, operate or interact with the ancient statue, follow instructions, and communicate with Wu Yu. Corpse Sect disciples consider this level of thought and speech extraordinary for what they assume is a corpse puppet, though Adai is not established to be one. (Chapters 93–96)
• Nine talismans: The talismans already cover Adai's body when Wu Yu finds him, and Wu Yu says they possess unimaginable power. Adai can remove them, but their exact function and relationship to his unusual constitution remain unexplained in the cited chapters. (Chapters 93–94)

• Wu Yu: Wu Yu's failed attempt to possess Adai awakens him and creates a powerful sense of connection. Adai becomes protective of Wu Yu, although Wu Yu is still willing to offer him to Wang Lin when seeking escape from his corpse puppet. (Chapters 93–94)
