Thunder
Thunder is the explorer and fleet commander. (Chapter 59)
Biography
Explorer, father, and vanished voyager
Thunder's long voyages made him the Fjords' most celebrated explorer and inspired his daughter Lightning. He later returned to sea despite the known dangers, turning exploration into an organized effort to extend the world's navigable map. That example directly shaped Lightning's own ambitions. (Chapter 59)
The Sealine expedition
Thunder later sailed the steel ship Snow Wind beyond the Sealine with Margaret, adapting ordinary lookout practice to waters where familiar assumptions had failed. When the expedition encountered the Bloody Moon and hostile shapes at sea, his continuing command turned the celebrated reputation described by Lightning into direct responsibility for a crew at the edge of the known world. (Chapter 1216)
Appearance and personality
During his concealed departure on the Snow Wind, Thunder dresses like a feather-covered wanderer and wears a right-eye patch embroidered with rose petals. His return to dangerous ocean travel presents him as curious, ambitious, and unusually tolerant of risk. (Chapters 1016, 1060)
Magic and abilities
He is an experienced ocean navigator and expedition leader. No magical ability is established. (Chapter 232)
Relationships
Lightning identifies Thunder as her father and models her own desire to explore on his reputation. Margaret later shares his expeditionary world, connecting his family legacy to the Fjords' merchant-explorer network. (Chapters 59, 1216)
