Kajen Fels
Kajen Fels is a playwright, actor, director, and theatrical teacher.
Biography
An old master confronts a new medium
Kajen has dominated conventional theater for decades when Neverwinter's plays and magic movies unsettle his assumptions. He travels with his students to learn why May's troupe has changed audiences, but his confidence in stage tradition produces a dispute when he initially treats the new form as an extension of methods he already understands. (Chapters 713, 1022, and 1025)
Investigating magic movies
Instead of dismissing the unfamiliar work, Kajen reads the scripts May gives him, writes for technical guidance, and studies an anomalous screening in which the audience changes the ending. His choice to investigate turns professional rivalry into adaptation and leaves him engaged with the new medium rather than displaced by it. (Chapters 1039, 1074–1075, 1110, and 1219)
Appearance and personality
Kajen is an older, celebrated theatrical figure whose authority comes from long experience and a demanding artistic identity. Pride makes him argumentative, but curiosity and respect for craft let him revise his position when the evidence exceeds stage convention. (Chapters 713, 1022–1025, and 1219)
Magic and abilities
Kajen has no magic. He demonstrates acting, directing, playwriting, teaching, close reading, and audience analysis; magic-movie production itself depends on witches and techniques he must request from Neverwinter. (Chapters 713, 1039, 1074–1075, and 1219)
Relationships
May is both professional challenge and source of scripts, while Carter Lannis becomes an intermediary during Kajen's later investigation. Kajen's students depend on his willingness to adapt if their troupe is to find work in Neverwinter. (Chapters 1022–1025, 1074–1075, and 1219)
